So, on my birthday, someone gifted me with an LJ gift certificate. I didn't say anything at the time, because I thought it was johnnybvo, and I was going to see him the next day anyway. But when he and I met up for breakfast, he gave me a hardback of Runaways, volume 1, (which I'm insanely excited about, btw, because I fell in love with the art in that ( Read more... )

OH MY GOD I MISSED YOUR BIRTHDAY.

So, uh, obviously it wasn't me. But happy frickin' birthday, dearie! I hope it was a good one and that others were better about remembering it than me.

**laughs** It's really okay; I rarely catch anyone's birthday on LJ. LJ needs to get with re-enabling the birthday notifications.

I wish I could say it was me but alas! Maybe one day, when I have some disposable income :D

So, you are clearly the person on my flist to ask this. I know nothing about comics (except that they, you know, exist) but I like the X-men stories as far as I know them. Kind of used to watch the cartoon a bit, like the movies, etc. Is there any way to read the entire saga without actually collecting the comics? Are they compiled in books after a few years or anything? Because I assume it's expensive and/or impossible to obtain a whole series, right?

And happy late birthday. :)

AND, thanks for the Crosby clip.

Actually, angisageek can probably direct you to the hotspots for torrents and stuff, which is how most everyone I know that reads comics is catching up nowadays. Particular 'classic' storylines of the X-Men titles are definitely available in bound collections. I own a couple such collections myself - The Dark Phoenix Saga, for one, and a few volumes of an AU storyline from the X-books called The Age of Apocalypse, for example. I'm fairly sure you can find many of these collections online now, as cbr files on torrents, and you would download them and read them on your computer. I can ask my friend johnnybvo what he recommends for catching up on the X-men stories.

Oh, judging from the reviews, these The Essential X-Men collections might be just what you're looking for.

LOL, well, I don't know how many of those I have in me; that game was just begging for it. I was only gonna take caps of Huston grabbing a drink, for Bri, and it kinda spun out of control >.> I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks!
