Let the Dark Waltz Begin (for loveis4kids)

When he’d learned about the new recruit he hadn’t known what to expect. He’d heard of the Red Room, but never seen its product. The Black Widow Ops Program was like an urban legend; people had heard of these facilities, but never seen them, heard of these deadly girls, but never met them ( Read more... )

In the Red Room, Winter Soldier is as much of a legend. The girls whisper to each other when they have the barest seconds of rest from their training. Natasha ignores the other girls' chatter. She has no time nor inclination to listen to it. Perhaps that's part of why they chose her, deemed her fit and ready to continue this part of her training while the others were forced to remain behind ( ... )

There's been the usual teenage girl titters about how handsome he is, and Natasha has to agree with them. She knows she shouldn't, but she does find herself enjoying the way his mouth moves as he speaks. The way his body moves as he trains. Much as she tries to stuff those feelings down, they stay not too far away, like a delicious treat waiting to be indulged. She's young, and inexperienced in that capacity as well.

She shakes her head. "I want to become a fever dream," she answers, following him. And it's not like she has any options besides this line; what else is she good for? She has a very specific skill set.

A fever dream. He’s impressed despite himself, but he catches himself quickly, cynicism creeping back in. Great. She’s a poet, too.

He knows she has no other options, though. With the training she’s had, with the life she’s led thus far, it wouldn’t be possible for her to live an ordinary life. And, he knows, she doesn’t want to live one.

“In that case, you’ve come to the right place, fever girl.” He holds the door open for her, taking another sip of water.

Desire has as much to do with execution as anything else. It's not that she's wide-eyed and unprepared for what life has dealt her. She knows what she's going to be doing. Manipulation, lying, using, killing. But it all thrills her a little, in a way that pleases her masters.

She moves past him, glancing up at him as her body moves close enough to feel the heat of his, before she's gone out of that closeness again. Fever girl.

She can become that. A fever girl. Death in a pretty package. Yes, that's who she'll be. "Gentlemen are hard to come by here," she says, remarking on his holding doors open. "I'm not accustomed to men, other than lying to them."

She appreciates being able to be honest with him, at the very least. She wonders, god she wonders.

Whoa, pronoun fail. XD ayeayecap July 5 2012, 17:00:58 UTC
He feels her body in his proximity, still warm from its workout as she walks out past him. Yes. This is going to be trouble indeed.

“I’m not accustomed to women,” he admits in turn. He’s had to get close to women for some of his missions, but for the most part spends his time in the company of other men. On the occasions when he does interact with women, his chivalry is part of the act. Apparently, these habits carry into other aspects of his life. Trouble. He knew the moment he looked at her she would cause him trouble.

Perhaps that was the point in choosing to put the pair together. Giving them both either a challenge, or someone worthy of each other to work together. Eventually they're going to either work together, and play nicely, or they'll end up killing each other. That's just how these things go.

She smiles a little as the sun hits her face. There are some small joys she still has, even with her training, and the sun, the warmth, is one of those things. But the smile is quickly tucked away, lest he think he's found a weakness in her, and she clears her throat. "Most of the other...recruits...are bursting at the seams to...interact with men," she says. But she's waited. She's not got that particular silliness in her head. "I fear for you, if you enter the Red Rooms."

"If I ever entered the Red Rooms, fever girl," he says, brimming with confidence, a smirk playing at his lips, "I'd fear for them." He likes his new name for her, he's decided. It suits her, or what he knows of her thus far. But he won't let her fever cloud his judgement.

She fights the urge to roll her eyes. But instead, she just looks at him. "I think you might find yourself overwhelmed by the sheer force of their 'affections'," she replies. Or again, maybe not. He looks like the type to have been through his fair share of women. The thought rolls over in her mind. "But never forget what Black Widows do with their mates. Even young ones are deadly." Fair warning, Winter Soldier.

"That may be true, but I'm positively dangerous." There's a gleam in his eye that tells just what kind of dangerous he means. He's been through his fair share of women, alright, and even as Winter Soldier has managed to keep what he once deemed "the old Barnes charm." But this is wrong. He shouldn't be flirting with her. It would seem beautiful women are his weakness, whether he's Bucky Barnes or Winter Soldier. They always have been.

I literally love Fever for them. I vote that's their verse's name. loveis4kids July 6 2012, 02:55:09 UTC
There's a part of her that can't deny his charm. Cant deny she likes his charm. She wonders if this is him, or the attention by a male for the first time. She decides it's him.

"I'm sure you can be managed," she says, with a smirk settling on her features. Big words coming from the one with no experience, is it not?

He gave her a smirk of his own, leaning closer. "I bet you'd like to try."

She dances away from him, that smirk still on her face as she moves, hips shifting a little more as she moves, and heads to the right building. "I'm sure I could find a way to," she says, stopping in front of the entrance to the Black Widow dorm. "If I wanted to."

His own smirk grows, and he shakes his head. "Goodbye, Natalia," he says, putting a very clear stop to their flirtation for the time being. As he turns to walk away, he's still shaking his head. Trouble...

She unlocks the door, smirking to herself as she moves to walk in, not turning around, or sparing him more than a glance over her shoulder. Yes, they're both going to be trouble.
