I have a working stereo valve amp at last! And it's a bloody good one!
I highly recommend anyone interested check out Aleksandar Kitic's RH84 design. Can be built from any old scrap and still performs very well, although in mine I have somewhat limited bass response (~40Hz @ 5W) due to teenytiny output transformers and incorrect coupling caps.

I think even I could build that, or at least most of it. I certainly have loads of old amps and even a couple of spare quadd 22 amps for parts.
