my email is cxryen@gmail.com

...and I would love to come to your birthday. I don't know if I can get in to White Ho (as I'm still underage... though I'm more than barely legal).

Gimmie gimmie details, or a call if you like (415.374.1533.)

p.s. this messsage will self-destruct in a week or so...

If I can't make it, happy birthday though! (It's... 22 or 23 right?)

-c.

Okay, I'm sending you the e-vite as we speak which has all the details on it. The White Ho can be accessed by the 20 and under, but you gotta get there like, 8pm (I'm arrivng an hour later).

If that sounds like a kick in the pants, hit up Ocean Beach that weekend 9/16/06. I have all the needed info on the e-vite (including transpotation worries...)

But I think it will be fun and thinking Safia will be at one (if not both) so your queer thirst will be quenched...

I've been reading Malcom X suffice it to say.

Glad to hear it (though I strongly feel that POC who are inclined toward academia are desperately needed in order to change it, and to make knowledge less of a commodity for the privileged.) I'd highly recommend James Baldwin's The Fire Next Time as a supplement - it's a short read and well worth it for an additional perspective on the big issues Malcolm X grappled with.

You're absolutely right, but I think that while academia can be helpful the quest for a degree when the consequence is a disconnect from your community makes it difficult for you to later go back and be helpful.

Not in a "i have a degree, why would I do that" kind of way, but (for example) the asking a poor POC what their "socio-economic class" is instead of asking "what do you do for a living?"

I don't have a value judgement one way or the next on institutions of education/academia vs. being part of the working class, however I do feel as a POC (much in the same way I feel as a passing transman with T) that buying into an institution (school - socially constructed gender) carries with it the price of losing a certain amount of ownership, accountability and membership in the community of origin, if you will.

(I think this makes sense, but I've oonly had an hour or so of sleep.)

yep, waist-deep into my last year in community college. (woohoo!) i get to take classes concurrently at berkeley this semester... i feel kinda like a super secret spy because i'm not actually a berkeley student.

armand is a cool guy, but definitely a bit odd. a great helpful softie of a guy if you can stay on his good side. right now, he's more taking care of our elderly next-door neighbor than he is working, but i'm sure he'd be happy to have a chat with you. he's a creator-visionary kind of person when he's not too depressed, and pretty inspiring, i would think, if you're interested in building houses. interested in meeting him?
