Oliver was tired, no, make that exhausted. He never wanted to go back to Smallville, too much heartbreaking over there. He wasn’t sure of how Lois would welcome him, not that it mattered, but he knew it wouldn’t be a warm one. He also was wary about what expect from Clark. Ah… young, sweet, naïve Clark. He could still remember the sweet kisses and the heat from the boy's body. But he also remembers the pain and the heartbreak when Clark chose Smallville over him. When he chose her, Lana.
He sure didn’t want to go back there, but he was needed on the small city again, Boyscout wanted Green arrow back in his life and destiny made sure that would happen. Bitch. Destiny he meant.
“Bravo…” his conscience applauded. Damn it too.” Way to go, offend destiny… tempt her to screw your life worse than already is. Always knew you were a masochist bastard, but never thought it was that bad.” The blond closed his eyes tight, as if trying to shut that annoying inner voice.
“Put your best mask, Ollie-boy… it’s almost time to meet them…” The voice in his head was almost giddy, singing with glee. “Showtime, Ollie-boy… Come on, smile.”
When he left his car, the voice got quiet. And as he walked to Clark and the others, smile firmly in place, no one saw the turmoil on his soul. As he realized that, he almost cried. No one really saw him. No one cared.
