My syntax was a little misleading there, wasn't it?

"and I'm like" should perhaps be "whereas I'm like"....

Or if it was really the syntax thing, that explains a lot. I thought the "I don't even know you" was a response to the "I'll make out with you on the first date" line.

Anyhoo, there's a fine line between appearing to have a life/standards/self-respect and appearing standoffish. But if a guy asks you out and you're like "I have to check my schedule" and then your schedule turns out to be clear and you call him back, that shouldn't be a turnoff for the guy if he's at all reasonable.

If a guy asks you out and you're like "I don't even KNOW you," well, he'll probably just take that as a rejection unless he's got the fervor to be all, "But you could, babeh. Could and for all you know SHOULD." Tongue flick.

Not sure if this has been informative for you or just haunting, but I'm trying.

I think I manage to come across as standoffish because I'm busy *and* I'm shy *and* I don't like making out with people I don't know.
