Title : Hyung, Where’s Kyuhyun?
Pairing : KyuMin
Rating : G
Sum : As if he wasn’t suffered enough, Kyuhyun got into another accident and was on the edge of his life.
They’re liar. They said I’d be fine. They thought I didn’t know how serious my illness was. But I know. And I don’t care. Why should I care anyway? Now all I wanna do is just doing my best until the very end of my life.
Yes, I know.
I know I don’t have much time left.
-
“Hyung, where’s Kyuhyun???” Sungmin said after reaching the emergency room. He had rushed to the hospital after hearing the accident. Everyone was gathering on the corridor; the members, their manager, their crews.
Heechul, who was with Kyuhyun when the accident happened, was sitting on a seat with very pale face. He miraculously escaped from serious injury and only got scratches on his hands.
“He’s inside. It’s okay. The doctors have been handling everything.” The manager said.
But Sungmin didn’t see relief on the others’ face. They were all tensed, murmuring each other, looked completely apprehensive.
The manager patted Sungmin on the back lightly.
“Why don’t you sit with the others?”
“I…” Sungmin hesitated. “Okay.”
Sungmin went approaches the members, who were chattering in low voice. Eeteuk, Kangin and Kibum were calming Heechul down. Donghae, Siwon and Yehsung were talking to Eunhyuk, who looked so shock that he was crying. The rest wasn’t even able to say something and just sat silently on their chair.
“As if he wasn’t suffered enough already!” was Eunhyuk’s words when he got closer to him. “He’s not fully recovered from the previous accident…”
“Hyuk, calm down.” Donghae stroked Eunhyuk’s back. “We can’t do any-”
“Why it should be him???” Eunhyuk said bitterly, ignoring Donghae.
“Maybe…” Heechul said with shaking voice. “You expect it was me?”
Eunhyuk startled. “No, Hyung, I didn’t mean it that way. I just wonder why we-”
“But it should be me.” Heechul stated emotionally, looked at Eunhyuk. “Blame me. He asked me to trade seat and I agreed…”
“Heechul-ah, calm down.”
“…Had I didn’t do that, he’d be okay now…”
“Hyung it’s not that…”
“Heechul-ah…”
“…It’s me who should be inside there, fighting for my life!”
Eunhyuk cried harder. “Hyung, you get me wrong. I don’t want you to be inside there either…”
“Yah, please stop it.” Sungmin cut them off.
They all looked at him. Heechul opened his mouth to reply, but Sungmin went on.
“Do you have to fight?” he said, calmly, but sharp. “Everything has been bad enough without us fighting among ourselves.”
They fell into silence.
“I’m sorry.” Heechul said afterwards, bowed.
“No, Hyung, I’m sorry.” Eunhyuk blinked, removing his tears away.
Sungmin sighed and seated himself beside Yehsung.
It was almost midnight when finally the doctor got out from the room and talked to the manager. The members were all asleep, and Sungmin was the only one who’s still awake.
“How is it?” he asked immediately, joined his manager.
The doctor glanced at him hesitatively.
“It’s okay.” The manager nodded.
“Kyuhyun will be fine.” The doctor said. Sungmin sighed with relief. “However, he…”
At that time, Shindong fell from his seat.
“AUCH!”
And it woke everyone up.
“What’s it?”
“Why?”
“What’s ‘what’?”
“What time is it?”
“How’s Kyuhyun?”
The doctor cleared his throat and looked at the manager meaningfully. “We can move to my office, Sir. This way.”
“Sungmin-ah, you tell the others about Kyunnie, and ask them to be ready; we’ll have a press conference after I get back.”
Sungmin nodded and watched the doctor and his manager left. Why did he have feeling that they’re hiding something from them?
*
“Hyung, where’s Kyuhyun?” Sungmin asked, handed a glass of coffee to the leader, who had been sitting on a seat.
“Oh, he’s been moved to VIP room.” Eeteuk sipped the coffee. “Ah… I’m alive again.”
“Then it means that he’s fine?”
“Manager hyung said that he’s fine. He only needs some rest.”
“That’s good!” Sungmin beamed. “Why don’t you go home and rest, too? You’re here all the times, and you looked tired.”
Eeteuk yawned. “I’m sleepy.”
“Then go home.”
“It doesn’t make any difference. Ryeowookie’s just called and he said the dorm’s filled by tons of bouquet for Kyunnie until they have no place to sleep.”
Sungmin chuckled. “He’s so popular.”
“We’re so popular.” Eeteuk corrected jokingly.
The two headed into Kyuhyun’s room. When they got in there, Kyuhyun was talking with their manager.
“Hyung.” He said weakly as he realized their presence.
“How do you feel?” Sungmin carefully sat on the edge of his bed.
Kyuhyun shook his head. “I thought I’d be dead.”
“Yah, don’t say it. You’ve frightened us to death.” Eeteuk nudged his hand.
“It’s scary.” Kyuhyun frowned. “It’s… I was still conscious when the car flew and crashed. I could feel the world turn upside down. I was so scared that I’d be dead…”
“Don’t talk, don’t talk!” Sungmin boomed. “You’re scaring me. I don’t wanna hear it anymore.”
Kyuhyun smiled. “Sorry, Hyung.”
“I have to go, Kyu.” The manager stood, took his coat back on. “Sungmin-ah, can I count on you?”
“Yes, Hyung.”
“You can count on me, too.” Eeteuk added.
“No, Teuk. You go home with me. We still have many things to do.”
Eeteuk pouted, but followed the manager outside nonetheless.
“Now, Kyu, take some sleep.” Sungmin readjusted Kyuhyun’s blanket. Kyuhyun looked at him blankly.
“Hyung… Can I… Be honest?”
Sungmin nodded.
“I’m afraid I can’t wake up anymore once I fall asleep.”
He put his finger on Kyuhyun’s lips immediately.
“Don’t say anything anymore. Just sleep.” He kissed his temple. “There. I’ll be here all times. You don’t need to be worry. If you can’t wake up, then I’ll wake you up.”
Kyuhyun smiled again, and closed his eyes.
*
“Hyung, where’s Kyuhyun?” Sungmin asked, put the flowers he bought on the vase, and looked around. Kyuhyun’s bed was empty. The manager, who had been out from the restroom, looked startled.
“He was here when I’m in.” he said.
Panic was rising inside Sungmin. He left the room and ran outside, to the garden.
“KYUHYUN-AH!” he called, looked around.
There he was, with a nurse, on a wheelchair. Sungmin ran towards them.
“What’re you doing outside?!” he shouted loudly.
Kyuhyun looked bit surprised. “I’m… Bored. And the doctor said I can go out using wheelchair.”
“But…” Sungmin wheezed. “Well, at least you could tell manager-hyung first.”
“Sorry.”
Minutes later, Sungmin pushed the wheelchair and they talked while walking around on the garden.
“What’ve I missed?” Kyuhyun questioned, enjoying the breeze blowing his face gently, even tough his face looked paler than before.
“Oh, a lot.” Sungmin stopped pushing, counted with his fingers. “Three SBS performance, and Sukira’s interview, then we’re filming new CF, too. But don’t worry, our next MV won’t be done without you.”
Kyuhyun sighed. “I wanna be on stage…”
“Then you have to get well soon.” Sungmin patted his head. “Many bouquets on dorms get withered already, but new bouquets don’t stop coming. We still don’t have a place to sleep properly until now. And that’s because of you.”
Kyuhyun chuckled. “So that’s why the members want to stay here. They’re looking for another place to sleep!”
“That’s not it, you fool. They just want to be with you, because they love you so much.”
There was a short pause.
“How about you, Hyung?”
“Huh?”
“Do you love me?” Kyuhyun flipped on the wheelchair to face Sungmin. Sungmin’s eyes rounded.
“What? Of course I love you.”
“For real?”
He blushed slightly. “Aish, I’m not going to answer it. That’s stupid, Kyunnie-ah.”
“Whyyy???”
“Ah, I think it’s getting cold. Why don’t we get back inside?”
Kyuhyun suppressed a smile; let the wheelchair being pushed inside.
“Kyunnie-ah, I’m going to America next week.”
“What? For how long?”
Sungmin shrugged. “I don’t know…”
“Where have you been?” asked the manager as they arrived on Kyuhyun’s room.
“I’m sorry, Hyung.” Kyuhyun grinned.
“You get back to your bed. It’s time to take your medicine already.”
Sungmin helped him moved Kyuhyun to his bed, prepared the medicine and handed Kyuhyun a glass of water. The manger cleared his throat.
“Sungmin-ah, if you don’t mind, I’d like to talk with Kyuhyun. Just a minute.”
Sungmin looked at him, and then at Kyuhyun, and back to him again. “Oh… It’s… Fine.”
He got outside, taking a seat and waited impatiently.
What was it, which Kyuhyun had to know while he didn’t?
Why couldn’t the manager just say it in front of him?
And he waited.
And waited.
Waited…
Finally the door opened and the manager stepped out. “I’ll drop in again later, Kyuhyun-ah.”
“Yes, Hyung. Thanks.”
“Hyung, what’s it?” Sungmin went approaches him. “Is everything okay?”
The manager nodded awkwardly. “Yes, yes, of course. Everything’s okay.”
“Really.”
“Really.” He repeated. “Now, I have to go, if you excuse me…”
Sungmin watched him leaved uneasily, and then got into the room again. Kyuhyun was lying on his bed.
“Hyung.” He said as Sungmin had sat on a chair beside the bed. “What will you do on America?”
Sungmin blinked. “What? Oh… I… I’ll be filming a CF.”
“It couldn’t take a long time, could it?”
“I think so.”
“Promise me you’ll be home immediately.”
Sungmin face reddened. “Yah… Why should I do that?”
Kyuhyun chuckled. “Because Hyung, I need you to wake me up.”
After Kyuhyun fell into deep slumber later, Sungmin took his hand with his, held it tightly. He was worry for leaving him alone; he was worry if he couldn’t see him again. He touched Kyuhyun’s lips with his, and a tear escaped from his eye.
“I love you for real, Kyunnie-ah.”
*
“What do you mean he can’t hold on?”
“He’s going to die?”
“Hyung, how could you keep it for yourself…?”
“I have no choice.” The manager said resignedly. “He pleaded me not to tell you all when he knew what’s with him.”
“But how could you-he-we’re family, don’t we?” Kangin stuttered with fury. “How could you keep such a very important fact like that?!”
“If you’re on my position, Youngwoon.” The manager retorted. “You’ll understand. He just doesn’t want you all to be worry about him.”
Kangin groaned. “But if it’s this way, he’ll make us-”
“When was the surgery?” Siwon cut off.
“Last night.”
“Hyung, you said that the surgery is too risky, right?” Kibum said, scared.
“Yes. It has no choice but success.”
“How if it failed?” asked Shindong.
“Shindong-ah! Don’t you dare asking something like that!” Heechul barked. Shindong backed up. “Sorry, I… was just asking…”
“Let’s pray.” Eunhyuk looked at the members, he was almost crying, his voice was shaking with emotion. “Let’s pray for him.”
The silence afterwards was broken by a ringing cell phone. Everyone snapped out. The manager reached his cell phone and answered eagerly.
“Yoboseyo?”
Silent reigned as everyone waiting.
“Yes… I understand. Okay.” Then he hung up, and looked at the members tensely.
“It failed. He’s gone.”
Nobody seemed to believe his words at first, but Eunhyuk was slowly dripping tears, Hankyung fell weakly on the floor, and Ryeowook began to sob.
“It can’t be…” Donghae murmured repeatedly. “It can’t be…”
“I thought he was okay, he never told us anything…” Siwon covered his face with his hands, crying. “I never guess he has such serious illness.”
“You know what the last thing I said before he goes is?” Heechul stammered, tears were falling down his cheeks. “I said ‘have me some pics of Liberty once you get home’.”
“And all I know this time is he’s filming a CF…” Yehsung said, rubbing his eyes.
Everyone looked at the door as it opened widely. Kyuhyun was standing on the doorway, smiled.
“Surprise! Doctor said I’ve been good enough to be home!”
But then he noticed Ryeowook’s sobs, Eeteuk’s tears, and the gloom atmosphere. Bewildering, he looked around and asked. “What’s wrong? And where’s Sungmin-hyung?”
