Looking back on a year that sorely failed to live up to expectations

Dec 31, 2007 20:45

So, it's the last day of 2007. Thank goodness for that. I went into this year with considerable excitement and optimism, as reflected in this entry. To be perfectly honest, this year turned into the worst year of my life. 1998 was the previous worst; I had just moved to Australia from New Zealand, the couple of acquiantances I made in the dying ( Read more... )

You want 2008 to send me blind? ;)

Hope you have a good one too!

You too huh? Good to know I'm not the only one who freakin' hates this time of year.

Yeah. New Year's is pointless and all that this reflection on the past year does is drag me down. The stifling heat we're having down here isn't helping either. Stupid bloody summer.

Yeah I know. Kenny's actually made this time of year easier for me but I think he caught my New Year's depression. Poor guy. I'm starting to doubt that 2008 will be better for us Americans because it's an election year but I have a REALLY good feeling about 2009.

I'm just astounded at how long and drawn out the US election process is and that it basically dominates your entire year. Here, the date of the election is not even announced until six weeks before it takes place. The news I follow does a very good job of covering worldwide politics, including the US, and the impression I get is that this campaign is going to be brutal. You have my sympathies for having to live through it!

2009, though? That still seems so ridiculously far in the future. The fact it's 2008 already seems weird to me.

Aw crap, I didn't realize you and Kate weren't together anymore. That'll teach me to skim entries. I'm sorry. :-(

Oh, it's not your fault you didn't know; I didn't post. I retreated into silence. I suppose it's true what some people have said about my journal being pretty impersonal. It's much easier to write about theology and rant about politics than it is to talk about how I really feel.

Totally understandable. :-)
