Some of you may remember an absolutely fantastic online game that I get addicted to every summer, and this summer is naturally no exception: Stick Cricket! And now they've introduced a multiplayer version. If anybody would like a game, let me know and we can sort out a time. It's good fun. My screen name there is Axver as per usual, but I'll ( Read more... )

Ooh, alright! :)

I think you'll probably be able to get a hang of the game fairly quickly, as it's a considerably simplified form of cricket. Here's a tip: always elect to bat first while you're just starting to get the hang of it.

What is it you don't like about Black Holes & Revelations? I think a lot of the songs on the album have a more poppy, radio-friendly feel (Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole) ... is that it?

I love it, but you know me - I'm a sucker for a poppy feel. ;-)

I don't know ... it just reeks of mediocrity to me. I like some of Muse's more radio-friendly songs; in fact, Hysteria is my very favourite song of theirs overall and Starlight is my favourite on the new album. But Supermassive Black Hole just sounds hideous and the vocals make my skin crawl. A lot of the other tracks just seem to really fall flat to me, like they're missing something, some kind of spark that was present on the previous works and that is there in the live performances.

Also, I think part of the problem is simply that I had high expectations based on the previous albums. If this were a debut, I think I might feel more favourably towards it. But when you've made Origin Of Symmetry and Absolution, Black Holes And Revelations is almost inexcusably weak.

Ooh! "Micro Cuts!"

And "Supermassive Black Hole" is the best song on the album. :P

Yes, Muse is the best live.

Micro Cuts was pretty fucking sensational. I'm really glad they played it. Probably the only song I really wanted to hear that they didn't play was Sunburn. I was quite lucky to get Apocalypse Please though; Ruled By Secrecy was on the printed set. I'd much rather Apocalypse Please.

And Supermassive Black Hole is an unsuccessful attempt to revive a couple of dead, bloated musical corpses that the crows have been pecking at. Not to mention it's dead boring live. Songs such as Starlight, Map of the Problematique, and Knights Of Cydonia slay Supermassive Black Hole.
