"The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried" -GKC (What is Wrong With the World)
I know that well enough from my own personal failures....
If you believe you were created by God, wouldn't a logical extension of that be that God created your ability to think and reason, and thus you should utilise your brain as a glory to him and to know him better
True.
"And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment." (Mark 12:30 NKJV)
Anyway, my suggestion: pray for them (and me, for that matter, if you don't mind).
I apologize for not responding to your other posts....At the time, I didn't have anything valuable to offer on the topic, so I remained silent. I was thinking of perhaps responding to them later, but over the weekend I became sick (and I still am), so I have not got around to it.
I would dearly love to know what justification they have for such wilfull ignorance! I mean, am I missing the Biblical passage that says "thou shalt stick thy head in the sand and thou shalt learn naught"?
True. However, that by itself isn't nearly as annoying as people who are in ignorance (wilfull or not), yet still proceed to lecture others what another belief system believes....To use a SOTC (Someone other than Chesterton) quote:
"Ignorance is excusable when it is borne like a cross, but when it is wielded like an axe, and with moral indignation, then it becomes something else indeed." Flannery O'Connor
(Of course, that applies both ways: there are also plenty of nonreligious people or those who object to organized relgion who are just as guilty of the exact same thing; in either case, it is wrong).
BTW, while I'm at it, I'll just provide another Flannery O'Connor quote that seems relevant to your post:
"I think that the Church is the only thing that is going to make the terrible world we are coming to endurable; the only thing that makes the Church endurable is that it is somehow the body of Christ and that on this we are fed. It seems to be a fact that you suffer as much from the Church as for it but if you believe in the

What's funny is, I still have an account there, back when you could put that you weren't a Christian in your profile or whatever. Apparently they changed that in the eons it's been since I've been there (or I'm just an idiot and can't figure out how.) because on CF, I'm still stuck as a Southern Baptist. Yay.
The whole point of this comment was, you made me curious about that thread. So now I shall venture into Idiotana and try not to get infected. Just a peek at this forum is making me want to cry for humanity. Could you direct me to where that particular thread was?
I agree. When I was still a Protestant, I attended a Southern Baptist Church for a while, and it was a great chuch (though obviously today I would disagree with it on some doctrinal manners).

I love that quote. In fact, I use it as my signature on one of the online forums I frequent.
'Anyway, my suggestion: pray for them'
Easier said than genuinely done!
'(and me, for that matter, if you don't mind)'
But in your case, not a problem at all! Will do. :)
(I was actually wondering where you'd got to. I made a couple of entries lately and I was going to e-mail you to ask your thoughts.)
