The events that took place around midday my time yesterday deserve some comment. They are the re-union of Split Enz and President Bush's State Of The Union speech, and I will address them in the order in which they happened ( Read more... )

Have a good time moving! Stay out of trouble. ;)

Haha... my same thoughts on the Democrat response - awful. "I was a missionary when I was a young man, and I learned how to serve people." Sure… And then the repeating of "There's a better way." got quite annoying when there was no distinct statement of what that "better way" was.

Bush's speech wasn't the greatest of all time, but it wasn't bad either. His statement of wiretapping was good. :) I tend to find more enjoyment in watching the crowd than listening to the speech anyway.

I'll not only stay out of trouble, I'll also stay out of most other things and just order people around. ;)

"There's a better way" made me laugh, because he said it so poorly. It was like he was listing it as a problem! "Things are wrong because of [this], [that], there's a better way!"

I was interrupted a few times during Bush's speech so I didn't hear the wiretapping bit, but whatever he said, I'm sure it's lies and I would've started yelling at my computer. I hope he's impeached for that fiasco. Why, yes, I have strong feelings on the matter!

That'll work. I love doing that!

Wow, someone's a bit biased... *cough cough* ;)

Basically, on the wiretapping issue, he said that law enforcement agencies screwed up before 9/11, and we're not going to let it happen again. Considering my partiality to the FBI, you could probably guess what I think about it.

Seems some of my relatives showed up and tried to give orders. I made sure that didn't go down well. ;)

And YOU aren't biased? Hee. As far as I'm concerned, law enforcement screwed up pre-2001-09-11, and now the folks above them have screwed up by breaking the law. Last I checked, breaking the law = impeachment for a President.

Thanks. I hope it goes nice and smoothly. Nothing worse than a move that drags on and on.

I know that from experience, a move that drags on sucks.

Go read a good biography if you need to relax: Nick Mason's is a recommendation.

Yeah, we had one that took forever too, a few years ago. We'd used this removalist company for our previous move and they did an awesomely quick job, but second time around, they were terrible.

I'm currently reading a history of the Panama Canal. It's quite fascinating.

That the beauty of American politics, at least with the Democrats. They can't "offend" anyone. If they do they get sued for using their Constitutional right against someone else. *rolls eyes*

And yet the Karl Rovian Republicans feel entirely free to launch malicious and untrue smear campaigns against anyone in their way, even fellow Republicans. *cough*JohnMcCain*cough*

I need to listen to more Split Enz, you mean!

Heh, I don't particularly enjoy moving. But it's done now and the end result is fulfilling!

"Fellow citizens, we've been called to leadership in a period of consequence.  We've entered a great ideological conflict we did nothing to invite.  We see great changes in science and commerce that will influence all our lives.  Sometimes it can seem that history is turning in a wide arc, toward an unknown shore.  Yet the destination of history is determined by human action, and every great movement of history comes to a point of choosing ( ... )

Words are only half of a speech. Presentation is just as important, and the way he spoke was dull at best. I was thoroughly unenthused. Plus, the utter failure to establish a position markedly separate from the Republicans is just setting the Democrats for more electoral losses. Why vote for the Wishy-washy Uninspired "I Can't Believe It's Not The Republican Party!" when you can vote for the real deal? At least when you vote for the real deal, you know you're genuinely being screwed up the arse!
