as far as i know, emmy, there's just the major that's required. no minor or anything like that. just the coursework for your major (or in your case majors?) along with the gen ed. requirements and then whatever you still need to fill for the 120 hours to receive your degree.

unless english and/or rhetoric are sort of like linguistics in that they want you to choose a specialization of sorts within your major, that's pretty much it.

Nah, I'm pretty sure they don't much care about a specialization.
Phew.
Excellent.
I'm going to try graduating a semester early, and this caused me to look at my academics and discover I didn't have everything figured out...

looks like you're figured out, but yeah, they definately do not require minors from everyone.

some majors have some sort of... um... required number of hours of coursework in another area... but you probably don't have to worry about it if you don't already know (it would be in the requirements for your major[s]). in psych students need to have a sequence that allows you to apply, supposedly, your psych knowledge to something else. i chose CS, obviously, as i had more than enough of those classes. in CS there *was* the application sequence (for which i chose psych!).

Well, I seem to remember seeing a requirement like that for the English major. But now it isn't there. So I became confused.
I sort of feel like the U of I is trying to trap me into staying and paying more money/precious, precious time to them through hidden requirements, or something.
But I'm a bit paranoid.

Ah ha!
The "old" Rhetoric major needed like 29-33 hours of supporting coursework. The "new" Rhetoric major has dispensed of such foolishness.
So very pleased.
