The person who left this comment said it all: "плавно открывающийся портал в ад оставили за кадром." (The gradually opening portal to hell was left off camera.)
This is distressing... My passion for bad puns and tortured rhymes keeps me listening to this guy. I just sat through 2.5 YouTube videos of him entirely voluntarily... :/
I am proud to say that I have sat only slightly off-stage at a gig of his in Chicago a couple of years ago and had the privilege of shaking his hand. Psoy Korolenko is pure win.
OK, having spent the last hour and a half listening to various things by him I could find on YouTube, I have to say this is probably my favorite. Meta-song! :D
И маятник Фуко, и сам Фуко, И другой Фуко, и Умберто Эко, И ботинки Ecco, и продукты эко-
That was one of my favorite parts, too, but I'm also very partial to the rime of "Basho" and "to da se". Translating this would be quite an exercise!
I would actually love to find someone who would be willing to get recorded singing renditions of Psoy's hyper-cleverness in English - someone who can a) recognize the philosophical/philological academic references, in case I miss one and b) breeze through English, Russian, French, Yiddish, and whatever else he throws in there, and not bat an eyelash. And maintain a suitably other-worldly air while doing it, of course, not trying to croon or wail or anything.
