Blackout was, in fact, absent from the apartment when the fire started, gone on yet another Scorponok-related errand. His repairs on the symbiont were complete--or so he had thought. When he'd tried to reboot the smaller mech's system, something in him had failed, prompting both Blackout and his persistent little guest to leave early in the solar cycle in search of some potential solutions ( ... )

Barricade had spent the greater majority of the day down in the fighting rings; it went without saying that he had been deep in recharge the first clear chance he had, recovering full strength and power. The repairs he'd gotten at the fighting ring, he planned, would be finalized as soon as he felt up to par.

That said, he was still a soldier. And it didn't take much for the smoke to trigger his sensors, red optics flashing online - nor for him to immediately come awake. His weapon systems came fully online as he snarled, ready to target any who had dared attack them as he threw open the door to the main hall-

Just in time to catch sight of Scorponok bursting free of the workroom.

Megatron's cannon was active and aimed at Scorponok before he was fully aware of the drone's identity, an irritated snarl escaping his vocals. He paused for a moment as his optics focused, surprised to see the symbiont functional, let alone tearing through doors. Surely Blackout would have reported such a breakthrough, but... he did not seem to be present either.

"Scorponok," he called roughly, lowering his claw slightly as he stepped forward, glancing at the workroom and the gathering smoke.

"Perhaps one of you would care to explain this?"

The question was directed at both the mechanical scorpion and Barricade, who had only just entered the scene - not beyond Megatron's notice, however. They likely would not have much time for long-winded stories, if they hoped to salvage their temporary base of operations, or escape if need be.

"And what you intend to do to fix it?"

With a sinuous twist, Scorponok managed to right himself, hugging the floor casting his perceptive nets wide. He had no idea where he was. The last thing he remembered was Egypt--answering the call to fight, attacking the jet, being thrown to the ground and--

And--

The little Decepticon shrieked again, weapons systems coming online with a whine. He backed against the wall, tail poised above his head with the blades splayed, searching for the one thing he knew would be able to make any of this overwhelming surge of data and nonsensical information make sense--!

But Blackout was not there. Scorponok could feel him, a distant signal returning his pings, but he wasn't close. There was only smoke, and fire and...and the one thing almost as good as his host.

Keeping low, sensors trained warily on Barricade even though his databanks were identifying him as Decepticon, he started sidling towards Megatron, his only response to his host's Lord's demands a rolling series of wordless clicks.
