Optimus had expected the thing might come on after him, having presented himself as a threat, and being smaller than the creation gave him some advantages. Cliffjumper's and Grimlock's distractions had been a wonderful help in that area, but when he ducked behind another broken building, slowly edging his way in closer as he did, he could no longer see either of them ( ... )

In the middle of fire-fighting, Wheeljack hears the comm, recognizing Optimus's voice. Actually, he's not entirely sure which Optimus it is, but . . . it's Prime - that's all he needs to know. He checks in, flames crackling close in the background of his response.

"Wheeljack here, sir. Me an' Ratch're about fifty meters off the- . . . um, s-sorry, Primaxian Ratchet, that is - about fifty meters off the Fortress's right flank. Ratch is directin' the evacuation, an' I'm doin' what I can ta contain the fires so they can escape."

It would take the gun several moments before he could fire it again. Que clipped it to his back and pulled his more traditional rifle.

"Que here, Sir," he said, identifying his location. "That beastie's not invincible! We can beat it!"

At this point The Griffin has forgotten Prime and Que, in favor of attempting to destroy Cliffjumper, who has decimated one side of its tentacle main and Grimlock who's rocket launcher just managed to take out an optic.

It's now likely to have depth perception issues, making it harder to directly make contact, however it's flame breath doesn't necessarily need depth perception. It's currently proving this by spewing fire anywhere in the general vicinity of Grimlock, to the general vicinity of where Cliffjumper is flying.

With Wheeljack and Que checked in, the Prime can vent a short gust of what relief he can for the time it takes him to receive their responses. They were doing okay for the time being. Cliffjumper and the other Cybertronian who had been fighting on the machine's back with him were now the center of its attention, so announced, Optimus saw as he ducked around the corner again to dart closer, with a spray of fire dousing the area the two had been.

"Good. Hang in there, all of you." He wanted to say they would beat this thing, that they had taken on bigger and badder and survived, but he did not.

The Griffin's attention had been distracted elsewhere for the moment and the general took that opportunity to rush forward, to where the damage was worst to the city thus far, launching another short series of rounds at the engine again. He hoped it had been damaged enough to at least hinder flight. Whatever they had done to it seemed to be putting in a dent, though he would not count it as anything that might cripple the thing just yet.

The creature had been incapacitated before but Prime just sealed the deal. There's no way it'd be able to fly now, a critical triumph considering that's just what it wants to do. With Cliffjumper on its head and Grimlock climbing it, he can't escape them on the ground and now he can't shake them off from several stories into the air.

It roars in anger and frustration, fire spouting as hot and far as The Griffin can manage. It's programmed to destroy and it's going to do its best for as long as possible. Cliffjumper has managed to turn part of its head to glass but the tentacles trying to grab him make it impossible to actually break it.

Grimlock is quickly proceeding up its hurt leg and again it can do little more than stomp around hoping to knock the Dino loose. It's getting more and more desperate as the mechs close in on him.

That seemed to do it, but with all things that realized they were effectively trapped, the Griffin fought back and fought back hard. There no longer seemed to be a real target - the creature looked like it just wanted to damage who and whatever it could before time ran out.

Pressed for time himself now that the machine was all the more on the rage, Optimus darted out into the open, exposing himself to try and put an edge on his own targets as he launched a new salvo at one of the titan's forward legs. It wouldn't do any good to try and take out the one he had been working over now that one of his allies was attempting to scale it.

Between the shot from the Prime, to his already damaged front leg and the deep blade Grimlock buried in his leg--the Griffin goes down, staggering slightly, but with no way to catch itself it goes down hard.

He may be down, but he's still more than capable of bursts of fire, a last desperate attempt to offline his assailants.

It isn't every day that he gets an opportunity to tangle with something this big; the tremor under his feet is no surprise and no great hurdle as the mech ducks for cover behind another broken and burning building. Once there is a break in the spread of flame in his direction, he steps out again to push a few more rounds into the chest of the downed creation, at the junction of a front leg and the remainder of the body, hoping to hit something sensitive.
