Nothing is ever certain.
Circumstances change; the right place at the right time. The wrong or right place at the right or wrong time.
It depends on what you believe; if what you call fate places opportunities in your way, or you seek them out because fate won't do it for you.
There are clues and hints to the nature of the universe, but from what I've seen individuals carve their own paths through the universe-there isn't a preset path to anything.
