Wow, it’s been a long time since I posted anything. The last few months have been exceptionally frenetic. I’ve been either too tired, or too depressed, to revisit events in a blog. But things are betterish now. This post is going to be a random dump of status updates and other thoughts.

On the topic of Olympics vs Prom ...

"Oh. My. Gawd!!!!!! How dare you (Jocks/Geeks/Tibetans/French) RUIN my (Dress/Suit/Expensive Stadium/Olympic Torch Photo-Op) on this, the most important night of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!~!~~ It's not PERFECT anymore!!! You've totally RUINED my chance to shine (As a Pretty Princess/On the World's Political Stage)!!!!!! I'll NEVER forgive you!!!!!!!!!!~~~~~!~~~~```"

As one of those jaded individuals who's gone through prom, I can't help but think it's a bit sad that China puts such an excessive value in the Olympics. It's also sad how China's need for perfection makes it so vulnerable. I mean the whole "exchange of ideas" and "open dialogue" is great, but there's some out-and-out grandstanding/blackmailing that's just low (eg, Spielberg's resignation from the Opening Ceremonies).

In unrelated news, did you hear there's a spike of children being named "Aoyun" (奥运) after the Olympics? Can you imagine how much grief an "Olympics Wong" would get on the playground?
