Oh, wow, I love this. The changing meanings of what 'home' is, how much solace he takes in familiarity, the building of David's confidence (love how that's echoed in how his body changes, too). I absolutely love anything to do with language, too, that was such an effective device to frame the whole thing with, and Iker being sort of shut out by David's English is really heartbreaking and so believable.

My esteemed colleague Kisa already quoted my favourite line, but this is pretty special, too:

It feels good to be home, to be back in the place he feels like he owns a little. Not just on the pitch, but the city too.

Just love your prose, so sparse and restrained and conveys so much with so little.

Thanks for a great read, this was stunning ♥

Every time, you leave the most thoughtful comments <3 I appreciate it so much, seriously. Thank you, every compliment here just, ugh <3

Exactly exactly <3 Language barriers even when ostensibly you speak the same language.

David seems to have settled in so quickly and comfortable to his life here, I think that would be harder for his friends at home to deal with than it would be for him.

dropping in, very belatedly, to say that this is adorable and perfectly boyish and I really enjoyed it. :) Iker being an obnoxious grabby brat, awww. and David's language issues were a lovely theme throughout. thank you for sharing this!
