I like to pretend I can be creative.

So guys, I am having a serious issue in the sense that I want to write more than anything in the world and I have all sorts of ideas but they all seem to just...suck. And I'm bad at that whole actually getting words out thing. I thought that the whole "My great uncle died and the memorial service was one of the worst things I've ever experienced" ( Read more... )

I LIKE WRITING \0/

You may just have been stuck thinking about it on your own too long! I would gladly be a sounding board. :D Your steampunk thing sounds interesting, as does your fairytale parody (I happen to be writing a fairytale parody myself right now so it concerns me, yes). Tell me more!! :D

I think I remember reading that Prince Charming thing, and you should definitely go on that. Your clever/ sarcastic parody type things have always been your most stand-out writing, in my opinion. You just have the natural snap and wit that is missing from a lot of comedy writing.

And I kind of feel similarly about writing music right now, which is why it's definitely humbling/ frustrating to come here and listen to kids do songs that come off of the full albums that they've already written while I have yet to even come close to finishing a song that I'd want to release. But the mindset that I've come to is just that I realize that not everything I come up with or turn out right now is going to be incredible, but I should just start GOING and either I'll be able to improve on stuff that starts out bad, or it will lead to some inspiration for something I like better. Maybe that would help you?

My advice to you is to write when you're really feeling it and to just be satisfied with letting ideas stew when the words don't seem to be coming out. In my opinion, the "stewing" is just as important as the actual writing, so you shouldn't feel bad for doing it for a very long time. After all, if you've got ideas floating around and you've stewed so long that they go away, maybe they weren't that good.

Also, instrumental music is a good tool for convincing the words to come out.
