Gimp Tutorial #2 - How to colour manga scans

Oct 24, 2012 21:02

This time, I'll show you how to add colour to black/white manga scans. Of course, there are various ways to do it, but I'll explain to you the way I do it. :)

You need:
- Gimp
- a manga scan of your choice

Step 1:
Open Gimp and open the scan you want to use.
If you want to cut the picture to size, use the tool "Rectangular selection" from the toolbox to ( Read more... )

I LOVE your new user pic! Passionately! The colors are so beautiful, too. May I borrow this user pic and use it sometimes? I will credit you, of course. If you want to say no, don't feel bad. I can totally understand if you want to keep this shiny new icon for yourself.

I don't have time to try this coloring tutorial now, but it's good to know it's there for when I;m ready.

But of course you can use it! I'd feel honored if you did. Oh my God, I guess if you even used it for the next chapter of Justice, I'd overflow with happiness!
So yeah, feel free to use it!
I experimented quite a while with the colours in this pic until I was satisfied with the result. I wanted it to look tender, but not feminine; romantic, but not cheesy; and passionate, but not too colourful.
I'm glad that you like the way I solved this little colour dilemma.

Once you've tried out the tutorial, tell me if it works - and if it does, I'll appreciate you showing me the result, of course. :)

Thank you so much! I'll use it for the next chapter of Justice and direct people to your tutorial. Your tutorials are kind of like a public service!

tender, but not feminine; romantic, but not cheesy; and passionate, but not too colourful. You achieved your goals perfectly.

Omg, aren't you the one who always makes these many wonderful coloured FAKE icons? *bows* I love your work! <3

I never thought that you could turn up at my LJ! :D Well, welcome, anyway. And when you like my tutorial, I think it tells me that I must have done it right. ;)

By the way, do you use Gimp for your colourings, too? Or photoshop?

Aw, thank you! I'm glad you like them ^.^

I noticed Brit uploaded a new shiny Fake icon and just had to find out who coloured it, because I fell in love with it!

Yes! I think this tutorial is simple and easy to follow and I'm going to try it out with Gimp and I think it may even be easy to transfer to PSP..

I use Paint Shop Pro and Gimp for colouring manga and Photoshop for finishing off. I have improved a little with shading and now learning to vector so I hope to get back into Fake colouring very soon! ^_^d

And I'm glad that you like my icon! :D

Wow, I didn't know you use three programs. I only use Gimp.

Yeah I think I should also start to improve my shading skills a bit... I always have the feeling that I overdo it when I shade something, and then I'm never happy with the result. :/

Anyway, I'll be looking forward to more coloured FAKE icons from you! :)
