Ooh! Really enjoyed this take on the story - and I love that while you had the sexual chemistry between them, it doesn't get in the way of the trust. I also love that you didn't resolve it between them - that this is the starting point, not the ending point.

I haven't read a whole lot of Clint/Natasha fic, so I'm not familiar with the headcanon conventions, but I like Clint's backstory and the way he brings her in. I like that Natasha was already on the run when she encounters Clint, and she already has a nascent desire to join SHIELD - or, really, anyone who can provide her with some kind of security against the Red Room program: SHIELD as a shield. *g*

At any rate, this was wonderfully written, beautifully detailed, and very very enjoyable.

Thank you! :D

This is... more my own headcanon than the overall fanon consensus (not that there's really such a thing). It's certainly been influenced by things I've read, seen, or discussed all over the place, but I did put some of it together a bit sideways.

I'm really glad you liked it!

Love Fury as a magnificent bastard. Makes their scene together in IM2 more meaningful if anything like that happened. I can see them going from grudging respect (we're both awesome spies whose secrets have secrets) to a almost familial relationship based on trust and admiration.

*listens to Florence and the Machine* Was totally my inspiration for one of my promptathon fics, and it really does work for Natasha.

Ohh I loved this. I haven't read a fic (that I remember) where Natasha had already hoped that shield would take her in. I love the way that decision affected her relationship with Clint and I LOVED the way you handled him when she tried to seduce him. I have a thing for Clint turning Natasha down, idek.

Anyway this was lovely and I am curious if this story will bleed into any of your others :)

Snicker. If you have a thing about Clint turning her down? Then you'll love the next bits (when I get them written. I'm working on that, I swear!) It's kind of going to be a thing with them for awhile. ;) Thank you!

Also, I totally owe you thoughts and things on chapter two - I've been doing prep things for NaNoWriMo (I'm an ML) and also my friend is 9 months pregnant so I haven't had a lot of space to sit down and work on it. But I will, I promise! :D

I dooooo. As long as eventually he doesn't turn her down, which I'm sure won't be a problem with this. Plus, you write the BESTTTTTTT UST EVERRRR, AND YAY NEXT BITS!! I figured there would be more, but yaaaaaaaay conformation!

What's an ML? Hahaha, I've never done NaNo, so I'm totally out of the loop with that stuff, but no worries, I hope your friend is keeping comfortable, and SO EXCITING, A BAAAABY!! I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts, ahhhh.

Thank you!

ML = Municipal Liaison, we coordinate regional events and run write-ins and basically herd all the people doing NaNo for the month. :)

Brilliant! Really beautifully written.

I love the idea that Natasha was looking to join up with SHIELD. Love that she couldn't read Clint. Love the UST and that he turned her down. And really loved that Fury was the only one to be involved with her interrogation. To my way of thinking that makes it more special/meaningful when she shares her past with Clint willingly (if that makes sense).

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it!

I'm deeply convinced that one of the reasons Clint clicks for her, is a combination of him being able to read her, and her having difficulty with him. He's her wild card. I was kind of surprised when I got to the end exchange between her and Fury, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

I agree with Clint being her wild card.

My heart was kinda breaking for Natasha during the interrogation scene. Having her deepest secrets revealed would be torture for her, I think. So I was glad that Fury was the only one to have that information.

I think I'll have to go back and read it all again! =D

For my Natasha, tat is definitely true. She's got control issues for years, and I realized as soon as I started that approach that it would only work if it was *just* Fury who knew. On the flip side, with the position that Fury was in, I felt like he had to do something to assure himself that she wasn't going to kill them all in their sleep as soon as she was given some kind of agent status.

:D
