Oh no! Scoffing Sulu breaks my heart! Poor Pasha. But hippie-Kirk is So. In. Character. Anti-establishment? Hot chicks in flowing, easy-off clothes? Progressive sexuality? Mind altering drugs? Yeah, Kirk would be down with the commune.
I am waiting anxiously to see the rest of this wonderful reboot of...whatever that episode was called. But this reboot! It is full of the awesomesauce.

Doh, Pavel! Roommate- aargh. Kirk was hilarious with the hippie speak! Figures he would- and the year on the commune is a perfect addition to his bio. I knew Irina would be trouble, although I'm not sure how much of it is intentional on her part and how much is just Pavel making the wrong moves around Hikaru. I loved how he ran statistics in his head to ground himself. I'm sure as soon as the words were out of his mouth when he introduced Hikaru he regretted them. But really, ouch. In the meantime, he also has to sort both himself and Hikaru out around the difference between having the hots for someone (Irina) and loving another person deeply (Hikaru). The old committed/married but not dead phrase comes to mind!

Oh yes, trouble indeed.
I imagine this is a mixture of Pavel being flustered and not knowing the right words and Irina being... troublesome.
