Weather report: Mid 50s???

It's the 6th of January, right? I still live in Wisconsin? So why it is that I spent just over an hour this afternoon outside down to my t-shirt and jeans (no long underwear)? I actually got some of the things accomplished in the garage that I've been meaning to do since we moved in back in September, including bring in a medium sized pile of ( Read more... )

Judging by the people who were out ice fishing during the solstice gathering and splasing through puddles, your neighbors may not be the wisest folks around....

At least that was one day of temperatures around the 38 F degree mark -- most of the water and fog was probably from the snow layer. The ice is probably thick enough that a little melt isn't going to do too much in one day, but I still can't help think: did anyone out there fishing on the ice take off their coat because it was too warm?

That's our job.

Not like this, it isn't! OK, honestly I wasn't cut that badly, but it did hurt quite a bit (and not in a good way either!)

I think the part that Fran fussed at me about the most was the fact that I finished putting out the suet before I came in the house to tend to my wound. Hey, I washed it off in a small pile of snow / ice first! Which was probably good for it, now that I think of it.

Besides today I get to sport a nifty duct tape bandage!

As I explained to the husband yesterday, it's the January thaw. This happens every year, but it's more noticeable this year because it's been so effing cold this season.

Oh yeah, I know we usually get a mild warming spell around this time of year, although it's usually closer to February. (Hence the usual trend around Imbolc plus/minus a few weeks.)

I think the unusal part to me right now is the difference in just a few days! The morning of 2 JAN was -3 F deg. and now we're hitting 55 to 60 F degrees ... that's quite a spread for less than a week!

Anyway, enjoy it while we can because it certainly won't last!
