Z'lan leaned over to look around Evreth's neck and blinked in surprise. There was, indeed, a man waving a sword at them and yelling too. He must be another one of those strangers. No one on Pern would wave a sword at a dragon.
I'll let you get off somewhere near by and then stay out of the way.
Probably for the best. Come on, let's get this done.
The blue flew over the screaming man and landed behind him, crouching down so Z'lan could quickly dismount. As soon as his feet touched the ground, the dragon leapt into the air again, trying to get out of the way.
"Easy, man, easy!" Z'lan yelled, "No one's going to hurt you."
Darvish whirled, slightly clumsy due to his hangover, and glared at him through narrowed eyes. A man... had gotten off the monster. This was just too damn much. He leveled the sword at him, hands surprisingly steady given his state. "Who the Nine are you, and why did you bring me here?"
"I am Z'lan of blue Evreth and I didn't bring you here." He kept his hands up to make sure the man could see he wasn't armed. "You should put the sword down, man, I'm not going to hurt you."
"If you didn't, then who did?" he snarled, not budging an inch. Nine Above and One Below, his head was killing him. He needed his potion. And a drink. Maybe two. Then he'd be able to deal with this.
