Dogs are cute. =)

Honesty's a good thing, and it solves a lot more problems that it would seem to create. However, there are lots of good reasons for people acting the way they do -- mostly it comes from the fact that they don't want to get hurt, especially if they've been hurt in the past. Honesty doesn't require people to be judgemental, though. It just requires a profound openness.

I'm sorry for being an asshole. I didn't mean to make you feel bad or anything when I forgot about the plans we made and stuff. I've just been in a horrible state of letting my priorities slip, and making bad excuses to cover for the fact that I just can't seem to get my shit together lately. So...I am sorry...and I'm trying to fix that ( ... )

It's been my experience that some people it's impossible to be completely honest to, even with the most honest effort. They just don't react well to the truth until they find it on their own and are ready to accept it. These people I find particularly hard to deal with, and tend to hold grudges. Fortunately they usually turn out to be not worth the effort and one can simply move on.
I hope your efforts in open-ness with R are going well.
