Hello there! Happy Passover to those celebrating and happy almost Easter to those celebrating. I hope you will be doing so in a fashion most safe for your current state of vaccination and/or COVID caseload.

We're still really behind on vaccinations here. Despite the fact that my parents can now both be vaccinated, there is no vaccine to be given, ( Read more... )

Your Easter tree is adorable! (As is Pax, but that goes nearly without saying.)

I have seen reliable statistics that the likelihood of blood clots from the AstraZeneca vaccine are much lower than from being on the Pill. And that just honked me off, because there has been so much fuss about the vaccine danger, and yet women go on the Pill all the time. (See also: attempts to develop male contraceptives keep foundering because the side effects and risks for men are considered unacceptable where the same or worse are acceptable for women.)

I hope you can all get vaccinated soon! I had my second shot Sunday, my husband is more than a week out from his first of two, and our daughter now has an appointment for her first shot.

It’s not so much me that’s worried about the vaccine, it’s our government who keep changing their minds on it. First over 65s couldn’t get it, now ONLY over 55s can get it. I think the risk is pretty low, but, unfortunately the type of clot is rare and has a 40% mortality rate, so I can understand the concern. My mum noted it was mostly younger women who had experienced it, and wonder if BC played a factor there. Slight risk from the pill, slight risk from the vaccine, maybe in rare cases enough to form a clot. But it was also noted as higher risk in those with low platelets, which is odd, as they have a harder time clotting to begin with.

In any case, if all goes well, my dad should get his first dose in a few weeks. And the government still insists we’ll all be vaccinated by October. But Ontario’s in our third lockdown, so it’s a long way to October.

I hadn't heard that it was younger women experiencing the clotting! It makes sense that it might be adding to the risk from hormonal contraception.

Yes, October seems a very long time away. ***hugs***
