(One typo: first "o" missing from "microscopes" in the title.)

Abby is awfully well behaved! Our Small Child would have been opening everyone's presents for them.

I love the initial exchange of greetings between John and Sherlock.

The presents seem very apt!

Thanks, super beta! :-D

I watched a video on youtube of a girl Abby's age on Christmas morning to get a feel for how a three year old might react, and that girl was super sweet about everyone's presents, which surprised me, but I went with Abby being quite pleased for everyone, though a bit up in their faces about it. I imagine Abby probably did some 'helping" with the wrapping on the other gifts, though.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Edited for smiley face error.

There are apparently many kids who sleep loads and don't help too much with other people's presents, and I've even had students bring small children to my office hours and the kids just sat quietly and didn't fuss or cause trouble. Sometimes I think that might be nice. Then I feel guilty.

My brother-in-law's first child was the one they call the "sucker" kid: so easy they decided to have another, and another. The other two were not so easy.

I was the 'sucker' child, but I came second. My older brother was a horrible birth, and screamed nonstop for months and months and didn't sleep. I was a natural birth, and was the loveliest baby, apparently. But I was a very troublesome toddler. I used to get into things and break things. I blame a lot of my antics on an unknown allergy to food dye and soy, both which cause hyperactivity. I think I wouldn't have been so crazy if we'd known earlier. My brother doesn't have half as many horror stories told about his toddler years, so I assume he was less troublesome than I was.

“Fuck!” he said, as he turned into the kitchen and found a shadow looming by the sink.

Hahaha, what a great introduction of Sherlock. I also find it very sweet that Sherlock has a key but only shows up when he’s invited.

John worried Abby would enter Reception with no idea of the alphabet, but a university level knowledge of science.

To be fair, this is a legitimate concern with an uncle like Sherlock. :)

This was such a delightful Christmas story. I do feel sorry for Sherlock who needed a bit of a nap after the other Christmas party, but it’s sweet that he feels he can be himself with John, Sarah, and Abby. <3
