Got a few things in the works here. I will be moving sometime in the near future-just in town. I made an offer on a townhouse that is within walking distance of the courthouse where I work. Just got word from the realtor that the offer was accepted by the seller. The realtor is getting the title search started and the inspection will be done this ( Read more... )

Thanks. We had been considering other properties in the area before I came across the listing for this one. It's a newer house-built in the late '80s versus the 1940s or early 1900s. It's a very old neighborhood-some of the houses just to the east were built in the 1890s ( ... )

We just haven't had good luck with our finances. Every time we think we're starting to get ahead one or both of us lost our jobs due to downsizing or policy changes or the company being bought out or contracts ending. Between the two of us, we've quit our jobs 5 times and that was back when we were first starting out or else we left for better jobs. We would have loved to find one company to work at our entire careers like our parents did.

I have worked for the government a few times but always on contracts. The openings for permanent positions don't come up very often and are usually offered to contract workers with the longest experience with them first. It's rare for the positions to be open for general applicants.

We're hoping Carvis can get a job after his next course that he can stay with until retirement age.

Glad you're able to get the laundry machines from your parents. It always helps to reduce expenses where possible.

You realize we'll want pictures after you move in. :)

Indeed. I shall send some once I get moved in. I was there this afternoon for the home inspection. There were a few items noted that require attention, but nothing major. The HVAC unit will be inspected tomorrow. The garage is interesting in that it is not fully enclosed-one whole side is open to the elements. The house has a high wall separating the yards from the sidewalk on both sides. The front wall has a locked door beside the garage ( ... )
