Wow, this is all incredible news... am so happy for you guys! Long may the improvements last, and well done to you both on coming so far! (Must have been a great feeling, apart from anything else, to have stunned both the doctor and the speech therapist...)
Stunning professionals is, aside from its amusing aspects, immensely reassuring. And it gives a perspective we lose, caught up as we are in our very busy day-to-day. I happened to glance at some notes I was making, trying to understand what Jane needed, and what I was cuing into as improvements was, indeed, frightening. In one way, there wasn't much, in another way, though, there was so much, and it was such an improvement after her near-total non-responsiveness plus the discouragements given by professionals
( ... )
No worries... of course I can't predict the future, but I'd imagine Jane's history of outperforming professional estimates should give us some hope about her likelihood of regaining her linear memory to the same extent as her associative... and as you say, it's all still there! Connections need to me made, more healing needs to be done no doubt, but I think optimism is justified...
*hugs* and thank you for keeping us in the picture, it really is great to hear!
Many thanks, dear mrsquizzical, for your good thoughts and for your commenting. It so helps to know people are reading & caring. Surprising, actually, how much that keeps meaning. Or maybe not so surprising.
