So, as I am stupidly behind on all of my monthly stuff, I just now got around to doing my review for Jen. I selected a fab story called All for You, which is a story about Scorpius having trouble coming to terms with being gay, but not so much about actually being gay as coming out.. It was gorgeous, and I want to hug it.

Cut for language and overall bitchiness )

Lik3, what th3 fuck? W3 hav3 fr33 r3in on th3s3 charact3rs as far as fanfiction is conc3rn3d. Why cannot Al b3 gay if Scorpius can?
I have a theory though that just because Albus Dumbledore was gay, does NOT mean Harry's son shall be.
What th3 fr3aking h3ll? What kind of an argum3nt is this? What do3s sharing a nam3 hav3 to do with anything?

Your review was utterly fabulous, by the way--I've never really thought too much of that fic but your review really made me feel good about it. :)
*hugs*

If there's one thing in your life you should be proud of, it's administering that slap that stopped her judgemental self from spewing more crap.

I was thinking... don't you now have the power to delete reviews? You could smite it from existence forever if you do. Then again, it does stand as a monument to just how far you're willing to accept bigotry.

*I kinda see where she's coming from... if the author's line of reasoning had been to link Albus Dumbledore's sexuality with his namesake, that'd just be ridiculous and annoying. But since Jen said it - understandably, I still don't think first of Dumbledore as being gay - didn't even cross her mind, that point is nullified.
*She didn't actually have a problem with Scorpius being gay, which leads me to believe this wasn't motivated by homophobia, else she would've been consistent. I honestly think she just had some beef with both Albuses being gay.
That doesn't make it OK, though - even if it WAS a valid point, the brash rudeness with which she communicated it is simply not on. And combined with the sycophantic "oh, but it was a great story!" Nuh-uh. However, while I don't want to defend her or belittle the offense she would've caused Jen, I'm just sayin' that perhaps this review *sounds* more homophobic and irrationally mean than it was intended to be.

I did get the point about both Albus's being gay, although that hadn't occurred to me before. Like Jen and you, I tend not to think of Dumbledore as gay first and foremost.
Mind you, I think Hugo is gay, Albus is chasing after his Chaser, and Scorpius wants to get into Lily's ... uh ... bed. That's my canon at the moment, anyway.

Basically, while I think they review is a little bizarre in her poorly-explained attack and inconsistency of attitude, I wouldn't actually say she's being homophobic or really intolerant (except intolerant of creative licence, of course).
On the other hand, if I were Jen I would be absolutely shocked and outraged to receive a review like that. It's just grossly disrespectful.
(Haha @ "Lily's... uh... bed." And the Chaser pun, though that was just lame, in the best way. xD)
Where did Hugo being gay come from? Although I can see that too, purely because I just associate the name Hugo with the Vicar of Dibley character (I was so shocked when he got with Alice!).

The thing is, we don't know how the Malfoys would react to Scorpius being gay. There's no reason to believe that homosexuality was thought of as wrong in the HP world. They seem tolerant of race and gender, so sexual orientation may not be a problem. I can see that Draco might want an heir to carry on the family name ... but I don't think they'd necessarily see being gay as being 'impure'... just 'inconvenient'.
