Christmas Greeting from Army Buddys

So far today, I've received calls from 4 buddys of mine with whom I've served over the years: for the most part when we first met the only thing we had in common was the oath we took and the uniform on our backs. We were from different backgrounds, different places, but the Army put us all together and it changed our lives. Now we're scattered ( Read more... )

This reminds me of the calls and cards my Grandpa would get every year from the gentlemen he served alongside in WWII.

Every few years they had reunions. Some he attended if they were held in a state nearby, but he never liked to travel much. And while he shared this amazing bond with these men, I never heard him ever share a story of war with a civilian.

It's an interesting fraternity, and I hope you have fond memories of him. As for the war stories, I'm not surprised: some things are very hard to share.
