Getting Old...or something

I just found out that I am scheduled to present at a conference on the Monday after a Saturday evening wedding. I knew the conference was that week, but they only sent out the confirmed program yesterday.

Thanks!

I got your someecard (which rocked!) but I haven't had a chance to respond.

Perhaps when I'm in DC for said conference we can meet up for drinks some night?

Absolutely! I definitely want to see you when you come around.

H Street is the new hot spot. It's not metro accessible, but I'll drive you anywhere. :-)

Are you asking for advice? 'Cause I think friends and family are more important than work conferences, no matter which commitment you knew about first. There are factors for both sides of the decision, but IMO the personal relationship factors weigh more heavily in favor of attending the wedding.

perhaps, but I don't think Avo's friends are the type to think an absence implies anything about the relationship.

Some of my only regrets in life include missing weddings. It's a way to stay in touch with good friends or get back in touch with friends from long ago.

Don't stay up all night on Saturday. Get an early-ish flight on Sunday. Talk with your boss as early as possible to ensure that you are covered in case there are transportation problems.

There is always another conference.
There is not usually another wedding.

(an academic viewpoint): I have had to skip alot of weddings and other things for conferences. In the last few years I have skipped a few because of money and time considerations (to go to an east coast wedding it costs us 1k ( ... )

thanks for that.

And yeah, the fact that this is the largest group I've ever presented to also adds to the cautionary perspective: it makes me want to give myself a lot of room to prepare and not add additional stressors in the lead up.

You'll figure the wedding out. And don't say old.. say "Priorities". That may help.

Secondly, echoing, Yes, Happy Birthday. Another successful trip around the Sun.
