If you live in Pittsburgh, you should seriously consider buying tickets to see Neko Case at the Byham Theater on July 19th. Great venue, amazing performer, reasonable price.

ps beststephi: have you heard Neko's music? If not, let me know. I think you ( Read more... )

you should definitely stop by. We have plenty of space to crash and a front porch waiting for you to sit on it. (Plus, free laundry facilities!)

XO!

Dammit. We had tickets to go see her (at Slim's, if memory serves) with friends the night C scratched her cornea. Needless to say, they went without us. It was apparently a great show, so yes, see her if you can.

I second that recommendation.
I think she's number 3 or 4 in my top 5 live shows ever.

fyi, and this is rough and off the cuff:

1. john cale w/ soldier string quartet and mo tucker (pittsburgh - 1995)
2. jethro tull and fairport convention (mann music center, philadelphia - 1988)
3. neko case (moore theater, seattle - 2006)
4. robyn hitchcock (TLA, philadelphia, 1993 or 1994)
5. yo la tengo (showbox, seattle, about 6 months ago)

honorable mention: the night in 2000 when I saw quasi at an all-ages show full of screaming teenage sleater-kinney fans (riot grrrrrrrrls - they're grrrrrrrrrrreat!) at the Club of Many Names followed an hour later by the genitorturers at the Fenix.

and another honorable mention to the Who in june or july of 1989 at...ummm...I think the Vet in philly in what, at this point, is the only stadium show I've ever seen which I'd actually call good.

I *loved* yo la tengo when I saw them at Bonnaroo a couple of summers ago. They totally blew me away.
