Since I've started at PCOM, which is a very small school with a very diverse and friendly student populous, I've been exposed to people so liberal they make me want to get McDonalds just to rebel. The break room is full of people eating tofu, veggies, flax oil, and someone's homemade, honey-sweetened pumpkin pie using ghee in the crust, and fresh ( Read more... )

I sent them an email requesting more information. Sounds great, though!! Def. could be a time-saver on the shopping, too, if I can convince the Mrow to eat the variety of veggies we'd get through this program. And yay for sustainable agriculture!!!! Yay for eliminating the need to transport my food across the planet! *does a happy dance*

Looking at the amounts of produce they deliver I think I'd have to become a vegetarian just to keep up. I do like the idea of getting truly ripe tomatoes though....

I'll let you know if the small share delivered every other week is too much. That was a concern of ours too! It will be a fun, new puzzle every time to see how we can use what they give us.

I'd love to know how you like the variety and how you prepare some of it..I've thought of doing this myself, as I really need to get more unprocessed/natural foods into Rob and I - never mind the kidlets.

Although I do know what you mean about wants to go to mcdonalds too, I feel the same way about many of the local moms in our playgroups..:)

And whenever I see you next...I'd love to pick your brain about gardening, as I'm planning a garden for the spring....

Absolutely! I shall make a note to post about the makeup and resulting creations.

I would be tickled if you would come pick my brain! I have all this knowledge and I know Eben is getting tired of hearing about things in which he has no particular interest. I have an extensive seed collection too, so if you need seeds or some of my seedlings I would be happy to oblige you. Last year I planted a lot of yellow pear tomatoes, expecting some wouldn't make it, and they ALL survived. Not to mention my over-zealous planting of squash. I was pushing plants upon anyone who would take them.

Teh yum! Ahh good, I was wondering about some of the health benefits of ghee. Eben was under the impression that there was no fat in it, but the description in Wikipedia describes it as nothing but saturated fat, so someone told him wrong! ;-)

Any good recipes?

It's not 'bad' in the sense that eating a little isn't going to cause any problems. Ghee made from butter is effectively 'milk oil', and, according to wikipedia is a 'good fat', while 'vegetable ghee' contains trans fatty acids which are 'bad fats'.

Populous: adj., full of residents or inhabitants, as a region; heavily populated.

Populace: n., all the inhabitants of a place; population.

Okay, so now that's out of the way...

Yay! Fresh veggies! And lots of them! I'm so looking forward to this.
