Technical question on writing in British

In writing the scene where McGonagall prepares the Hogwarts letters for sending, it JUST occurred to me that in much of Europe dates are listed day-month-year rather than month-day-year. Can any Brits verify that I should write full dates in the text as 31 August 1980 rather than August 31, 1980

Hi - Yes, as a British citizen, I can confirm this. It is definitely British to write the date/month/year - so 30 August 1980, not the other way round,

Thank you. Of course it took 11 chapters and a date being in a conversation before it hit me. *facepalm*
