Make sure you keep backups!!

I know of at least one author who lost his flash drive, or put it through the washing machine, etc.

I have some things backed up, but apparently not all. I was very grateful a couple months ago when I realized the only drafts I had of several chapters were in a writing comm here on LJ. I'll take care of that today.
