Okay...this "Twilight" thing...

All right, folks. Talk to me. I'm almost through with my run through Dorothy Sayers and I'll need more books to read. I've been seeing comments about Twilight by Stephanie Meyers all over my friends-list and I know it's a vampire book of some sort. I can do vampires.

But a bookstore employee's honest assessment was that Twilight was good but the ( Read more... )

I liked the Twilight well enough to finish it, but not enough to have sought out any of the others.

If you liked Lord Peter (<3), maybe try Margery Allingham's Campion, if you haven't already? I keep meaning to do a post about how being a mad Campion fan/shipper when I was younger well-prepared me for Who fandom, heh. Some definite similarities between Campion and the Doctor: Campion is a Sekrit Identity, and we're never told his real name; he loves to hear himself talk, and play with words; he falls in love with a much younger woman and can't commit properly to her for ages because he has Issues; he was played by Peter Davison on TV. :))

I actually liked Twilight quite a bit. I also read New Moon and liked it enough to buy the next one. They are by no means great books (and there's no chance they will ever replace my favorite series, The Amelia books by Elizabeth Peters) but I like the characters enough to keep reading.

I am probably the wrong person to try to sway you, but I LOVED the books, all three. No they're not fantastic literature, but they're good, solid stories with a great plot. I liked "Twilight" better than "New Moon," (the second book) but I absolutely adored "Eclipse."

Without being too spoilery, if you're looking for a good romance, with some twists and turns thrown in for good measure, then give "Twilight" a try.

I read Twilight when it first came out, but I have to admit that although I enjoyed it, there was something missing for me. I can't tell you what, but it just lacked something to make me love it. I haven't read the sequels and won't break my neck to do so.

I read the three books by Stephenie (that are out right now, more coming): Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. I loved all three, but I was spoiled for the first two and was kind of "meh" about them... but they did interest me enough to keep reading. Since Eclipse came out though, I just love the series more, my love for it increased with each book. I think they just get better and better ( ... )
