My mother was Miss Shanghai 1942. Louisa Grubel. She isn't mentioned in any of your report.

How fascinating! Louisa Vladimirovna Grubel, born on 18 November 1924 in Vladivostok. You might have documents or photos of this event in your family archive? By 1942 the Japanese occupation had forced major foreign newspapers to close, so the coverage was scarce. I only found this mention of her as Asya Grubel, winning the second place the year before:

"The contest at the Arcadia, which was held on Thursday night, July 10, resulted in the honor going to Miss Faina Hablieva, who will be known as "Miss Shanghai 1941". Those receiving second and third highest numbers of votes, who will be designated "Princesses to the Court of Miss Shanghai", were Miss Asya Grubel and Miss Tamara Melnikova..." (The China Weekly Review, 26 July 1941).

Here is a snippet from Jiganoff's Russians in Shanghai, p. 129: "Misses Louise and Laura Grubel (Asya and Laura Grubel in Russian), young dancers. In Shanghai from 1924. Laura is on stage since 1926. Asya performed for the first time when she was 3 years old, during the Cossacks' Ball at the Majestic in ( ... )
