Things Richard doesn't know about angels: they can go without breathing for up to two hours. That, paired with the fact that Fletcher can be extremely quiet when he really tries, explains how he's managed to position himself directly behind Richard without being noticed for the past five minutes.
He is sometimes creepy. He is also trying to figure out what Richard is looking at.
Except he's been distracted by something. It seems pretty Mr. Ricardus has some gray hair happening in the back of his head.
From mere inches from his ear, Richard will hear the following: "You're goin' gray."
It all happens so suddenly: Richard jumps, screams, and the newspaper goes flying. In the immediate second he turns round to face Fletcher with an incredulous expression.
Richard seems to have drifted down somewhat from the high he jumped in to. Or, more likely: he's found another height to ascend, this one related to words relating to color. He's just now realizing what Fletcher said before he jumped into the air like a frightened cat.
