Here's the final product! For those of you at mary_mcawesome, you've most of these drabbles, but I finally finished the little project. In honor of Mary's birthday I wrote 100 words for 11 of my favorite characters of hers, like I did a couple of years ago for Sarah Clarke. Mary's played a lot of incredible women so I didn't get to touch on them all, but ( Read more... )

OMG, these are amazing! Each of them. I just Laura Roslin now, and wow, I am speechless. Please, don't stop at eleven! There are some more Mary characters out there, waiting for your fantastic talent. Linda Marsh. Susan Shaw. Alexandra Bergson. Mary Shushan. Eve Sheridan. Virginia Dixon. Amy Banks. Claire from Grand Canyon. Dott Emerson. Please, promise me to continue them someday!

Sorry, I just realized you _did_ Dott, so forget that part. :) plus in my third sentence, I forgot one word: "I just _read_ Laura Roslin now".

Thanks so much for your comment! Mary does have a wide array of fantastic characters - I considered Alexandra Bergson, Eve Sheridan, Dr. Dixon, Amy Banks, and Claire, as well as Liz from Sneakers, Rose Baumler from The American Clock, and Margaret Langworthy from Nola. By the time Mary's birthday comes back around next year, who knows, there might be another ten! I had a lot of fun with this set so I'll definitely consider it.

Thank you! I especially struggled with Marilyn's, so I'm relieved that you liked it.

Gorgeous. (And that's just the header and the little pictures. =P)

No seriously, your writing is amazingly descriptive in just so few words. You bring each character back to life and unravel just small scenes in their lives. The emotions burst off the page when they should and seep in and stay with you when that works best too. You even made the characters I've not seen yet seem very real and mary-esque.

So really, thank you for sharing these and for giving me over a week of rediscovering some mary-favourites in amazing prose.

And you know, I really can't wait until next year. ;)

Thank you! I'm a big fan of Laura's whiteboard, and have always taken Billy's line - "That number means everything to her" - to heart. Given the frenetic pace of season 1 there's very little time for grief, from anyone, so I wanted to portray just a hint of that.
