Clint + team - Clint has eyes for every occasion jaune_chat July 3 2012, 14:58:55 UTC
Clint is called Hawkeye, and that's truer than most people know. You see, Clint is special. He has a whole collection of eyes for every occasion. Hawk eyes for accuracy, infrared eyes for tracking people at night, cat eyes for seeing in dim light, even a set of plain old human eyes he uses for nights out on the town. Somewhere in his room/nest is a shelf full of different eyes he uses, though he usually keeps a few sets on him, just in case. In truth, Clint is actually blind; he has no eyes of his own, just uses the various sets that he has. (Whether his ability to change out his eyes is science or magic or some kind of tech is up to you, dear author.)

Please show me the team's reaction when they find out! Are they intrigued? Disgusted? Just plain weirded out?

Oh my God like the creepy witch from Return to Oz. That scene gave me nightmares as a child.

He shakes his head, quivering slightly. "No." He doesn't elaborate, just lets Phil lead him. They get out easily enough, because if Phil can't keep his people from getting captured, he can damn well plan a good extraction. Clint goes to medical, bitching that his captors hadn't even had time to rough him up, that he's fine. Phil just reminds him that they need to check for microchips and god knows what else, and holds a case out to him. Clint almost snatches it from him, boxy shades slipping down a little and revealing his eyelessness. He turns the case over and over in clever fingers, and reads the little braille label on the side.

"I'm a little rusty, but I'm pretty sure that's the human set."

"It is." He carefully pops his human eyes into his head, that strange skin running like melted wax and reforming into completely normal eyelids, complete with lashes.

"…That's beautiful."

"Most people say disgusting." He shrugs. "I've never seen it."

The next time Phil sees Clint eyeless is much, much better. They've been sleeping together for a while, and Phil has watched him clean his eyes as well as change sets many times. He generally sleeps with his human ones in. After all, they're like anyone else's once inserted. Phil has gazed into them many times and come to know them well. Tonight, though, Clint sits on the edge of the bed and takes them out. Phil watches, entranced as always. Eyeless, Clint turns to him, looking incredibly vulnerable and shy ( ... )

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Someone filled my creepy eye prompt! And there was some Cthulhu-esque stuff going on and literal eyesex and Phil being awesome and Thor totally getting it and I'm pleasantly squicked and creeped out and laughing and fist-pumping all the same time and YOU WIN AT ALL THE THINGS, DEAR AUTHOR!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

I read the prompt, and I really wasn't sure what to expect from a fill. But this, this is beautiful and poetic, and I loved it.

The "It's a strange story, about a lonely boy born without eyes, who befriended something uncanny in the dark places other children were afraid to go." sentence got me more than anything. A story about someone who can take out his eyeballs and exchange them for others shouldn't be this poetic and beautiful, but you managed to pull it off. Everyone was perfect, from Phil's open-mindedness over Clint being used to people having issues with what was essentially an everyday action for him, to Thor seeing it as the most normal thing in the world, even if it may perhaps come with a price. Thank you for writing this.
