Bruce/Tony, Unknowning internet pals anonymous April 29 2012, 16:14:54 UTC
Picturing a fic where sometime in the past(long before Iron Man and the Hulk came along) Bruce and Tony were anonymous internet pals on some kind of chatroom, exchanging brillant sciency stuff, inspiring each other, becoming best friends, all without realizing who the other really was. They poured their hearts out to each other, telling their darkest secrets, and falling a bit in love. And they one day, one of them stopped answering.
Years later, Tony and Bruce meet in real life, and hit it off instantly. Somehow, eventually, they discover who they really are to each other. Bonus points if they knew each other by on-screen names, and that's somehow how they discover each other's identity. Extra bonus points if they'd resumed chatting, and were talking to each other about the other(no names of course, because the avengers is top secret) without realizing it : )
Sorry for the long prompt! Thanks!

It became a habit, for both of them. The second they got on a computer (or even if they never left on several memorable insomniac nights for both of them) they would connect, and begin chatting.

Tony taught Bruce how to build a computer out of practically scrap metal.

Bruce taught Tony how to seamlessly integrate flesh with computer in a way to keep the machines from harming the body.

And then it shifted. It being whatever tentative friendship they may have had.

HandsomeSmarts: -has logged on-
HandsomeSmarts: hiysa GA!
Gammaman: HS? What’s wrong?
HandsomeSmarts: Did I ever tell you how much I hat my dad?
HandsomeSmarts: *Hape
HandsomeSmarts: I mean hate.
Gammaman: You’re drunk, aren’t you?
HandsomeSmarts: Noooooooooooooppppppppppppppppppo
Gammaman: Yes, you are. You’re making all sorts of mistakes. What happened?

Tony leaned back, peering blearily into the screen. What happened? What happened? Where did he begin ( ... )

It took nearly an entire month before Bruce summoned enough courage to even so much as creep back online. Nervously he logged in, wondering morosely if HS was even on, if he’d want to talk… if anything really ( ... )

True to word, Gammaman kept his eyes on HandsomeSmarts, and didn’t log off on him, no matter how ridiculous his complaints. And he really did type them back in perfect English.

Logs began to pile up, carefully saved to three different hard drives (because Tony was a paranoid man, getting more paranoid by the year after finding a few of his carefully hidden files on a new weapons system he was going to use to surprise his dad) and treasured.

No matter how drunk Tony may be, no matter what he typed out to GM, the guy on the other end of the line just didn’t back down. Tony was being spoiled with this much undivided attention.

Nobody else in the house really cared what Tony did, so he immersed himself in machinery and a single log that he used to connect himself to a real person in-between his hedonistic parties, attempting to catch his dads attention in at lest one way.

What could he say- all the attention GM was giving him made him eager for more, and he was a genius. What could possibly go wrong ( ... )

I wouldn't quite call it genius, but thank you for the kind words!

Tony is Tony, paranoid little unloved man he is. Of course he'll save the logs.

Bruce covered a yawn with one hand, smiling as he luxuriously stretched. The computer dinged with frightening speed as HS’s sharp mind and fast typing speed dictated new ideas towards him at frightening speeds ( ... )
