GEN, Drunk Tony speaks only French anonymous January 11 2012, 01:42:45 UTC
I came across someone on the Internet who is bilingual in English and French, and who says that he speaks English normally, but speaks only in French when drunk. From Iron Man 2, we know that Tony speaks French. So give me a story where Tony is hanging out with the other Avengers, drunk, and speaking only in French.

Bonuses:
+10 if the author explains why Tony is randomly speaking only in French while intoxicated (the funnier, the better!).
+100 if almost all the Avengers know French and can understand exactly what he's saying.
+1000 if Bruce is the only one who doesn't understand what Tony is saying.
+10,000 if Bruce loses his cool because he can't understand Tony and Hulks out.
+the Internet if later when Tony is sober he speaks only French around Bruce anyway just to piss him off again.

It's really just a silly little thing (I tried to add a sort of background at first but it might be useless) but nonetheless… here you are OP, I hope you like it (and enjoy the difference of syntax between languages… I had a bit of trouble with that by the way because you just don't write dialogues the same way at all in French and in English).
If you (or anyone else) need translation about the parts in French, just ask.
Also, it's not betaed so sorry about the mistakes (though the ones in French are mostly done on purpose because I tried to make so that not everyone speaks it with the same ease). It was hard to remember how exactly the Tuesday meals started, they sort of happened ( ... )

It could have been all, but somehow Tony had decided that speaking French was the thing to do and he refused to get back to English. When Darcy asked him why he was still speaking French an hour later he explained that ( ... )

And so on… Bruce tried to look at the other for clues. Whatever Tony was on about seemed to mean something to Steve. And Thor approved (his body language was easy to read, even without getting any of his words) when, a few incomprehensible words, latter Tony said "et faudra en profiter pour faire des batailles de boules de neige ( ... )

Thank you so much for filling the prompt! OH MY GOD, THIS WAS SO FUNNY!! I can't actually speak French, so I really felt poor Bruce's pain (BTW, I would LOVE an English translation of some of what they're saying). I love how even Jane and Darcy knew French, but what took the cake was JARVIS knowing it too--that made me laugh so hard. And then you threw in Bruce/Betty, which just made me squee with happiness, because they are adorable and do not get enough love.

Anon, I think I love you. *deposits many Internets and packets of French Fries*

Oh OP I'm so happy you liked it!

Here, have some translation (italics are what was in French):
• The part about (french?) fries:
"Listen, I'm telling you that fries are not french! It's a belgian speciality!
- Tony… Speaking French won't make your arguments more valid! French fries are french… it's in their name!
- I speak French if I want to! And clearly you don't know what you're talking about! Have you ever been to Brussels to eat fries? Hum? Of course not! I knew it!"

• The explanation and discovery that the other understand it too
"See my brain switched language, just like that! It's beyond my control… and now I'd need another trigger to restart thinking in Shakespeare language.
- Another trigger like waking up with a hangover tomorrow?" asked Natasha with a perfect parisian accent that made Tony pout.
"It's totally unfair! How come your accent is better than mine, hu?
- Maybe because she's not drunk?" Steve intervened and so Tony's attention switched from Natasha's accent to his, which was admittedly far less parisian.
"And ( ... )

Oh yeah and the sentence that has Thor's approving at the beginning of part 3 is "and we must have some snowballs fights while we're there".

Thank you! LOL, this is all so funny. I love how Tony's brain just randomnly switched to French, and Natasha's comeback is awesome.

Major thumbs up this was great. I especially liked reading it being just as clueless and Bruce the first time through then reading the translations later.

Je suis si heureuse maintenant que je prend le francais au college :P C'etait si rigolo mdr xD Tres bien ecrit et merci pour le partager avec nous.
Btw, do you do dual language? And this really was a good read for me because I actually understood it without needing a translator. Know any place online where I can read short stories that aren't too difficult for beginners? :)
