Tony & S.H.I.E.L.D., Do as I Say Not as I Do doesn't work on Tony Stark. anonymous May 5 2013, 17:47:04 UTC
Tony's introduction to S.H.I.E.L.D. was peppered with people breaking into his home right after he was almost killed in a home invasion (by someone in his closest circle), an agent infiltrating his company and maneuvring to gain his trust only to stab him in the neck with a seryng full of unkown chemicals. And if Coulson's entrance in the Avengers is any judge they feel free to override his security protocols whenever they want access to him and he doesn't want to see them.

This would not leave most people in a good disposition toward the spy organization in general and the agents involved in particular. But Tony is mostly a good sport. He'll bitch and moan and he's slightly weary and unwilling to take most of what they say at face value but he'll work with them and be genuinly friendly and trust them at his back.

The problem? They will *never* get him to take them seriously when they talk about need to know, security clearance (his) and how illegal it is to hack into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s server.

I thought this was building up to sad Tony crying over all this, so I am fucking *thrilled*, because this matches my headcanon.

Absolutely matches my headcanon too.

Rebel!Tony sticking it to hypocritical bureaucracy? That is porn for me. Really good porn with high production values.

I support this prompt.

OP here

Just thought of a bonus kickass Pepper:

a high ranked agent, Fury, Hill or Coulson goes to talk to Pepper about Tony's casual hacking into files he shouldn't have access to because Pepper is one of the rare person on the planet who can wrangle Tony. And Pepper is all sympaetic and comiserating.

"yes, I know, Tony always had a problem understanding that rules exist and that they apply to him, I mean it's not like *I* have such a good track record of making him behave, I don't thing anyone does. Usually I just dammage contr... Oh, how to get it through his head? Well, the method I've found the best is the good old. Be firm, be patient, and set a firm example. Yes the good example is important..."

Natasha comes out of elevator.

Pepper waves "Oh, Hi Natalie,"

Natasha stop and weaves back with a raised eyebrow "Hi?"

Pepper "Where was I?"

high ranking agent: "You've made your point Ms. Potts"

I really love how that not only shows Pepper being kickass and understanding of human mechanics, but also shows Natasha acknowledging the potiential fallout of her job as well.
