This was great. I loved the contrast between the two. And how you portrayed Mai. We were jipped from a Mai/Zuko scene in the finale. Mike and Bryan said that they would see each other again before the season was over, and I was kinda hoping it would have been onscreen, you know? But this helps make up for it. :)

They didn't actually say before the season was over!

They just said it was coming up. Which clearly, in season three, it is.

...I have to say, I'm REALLY looking forward to finding out what happens when they meet up again. I strongly suspect that Mai has NO FRIGGIN CLUE that Zuko was even in the city to begin with. Azula would never pass up such a fantastic opportunity to mess with people's heads.

Your Mai is a bit unusual, and I like it. Her somewhat kinky pleasure in the flawed, and her awkward attempts at humor give her a depth and dimension missing from canon and most of the fics out there. It's not how I would write her, but I'm not saying I would do a particularly good or interesting job either.
Zuko's bitterness is, perhaps, a little overplayed. While I think he would be feeling pretty bitter I do think he's learned the value of restraint. Still that scene you wrote between them was wonderful.

Lovely stuff. It makes perfect and unexpected sense that Mai would find Damaged!Zuko more attractive than pre-Agni Kai, pre-exile Zuko. The last exchange between the two of them was killer.
