Kenzi sleeps the whole way to his apartment, even when he lowers her to his bed and pulls the covers up, she doesn't stir. Not that it should be surprising, as Bo had said, she would be weak for a few days. Chances were, most of those days would be spent sleeping.
So Dyson took this time to make his loft Kenzi-proof, and clean it up a bit more. By the time he was done, Bo was at the door with an armful of bags.
“Here are her clothes, I washed what I could-” she threw two bags at him, “-these are her shoes,” Bo threw three pair of boots to the side and some fuzzy slippers, “-her favorite blanket. Her computer, and cords. Oh, and her game-station thing, I hope I got everything.” she handed him a black box, and two controllers. “I also went out and got all of her favorite foods and-”
By this time, Bo had looked up and realized that Dyson was practically disappearing under the amount of stuff she had thrown at him.
“Too much?” She shyly asked, lifting the laptop and games out of this arms and on to the counter.
“No, it's fine, sweet actually.”
“Sweet?”
The groceries were set down on the floor next to his feet. Most of it was snack food, but he could also see cans of chicken noodle soup hidden in it's depths.
“You really act like sisters. It's sweet.”
Bo smiled sadly, “She's my Kenzi, and one of a kind. I worry.”
“Siblings tend to.” He turned to start putting away some of the food. “She's on the bed, she didn't wake up yet. She'll probably be out for the rest of the day.”
Bo walked over to the bed and sat near Kenzi, she re-tucked her in, and pushed the girl's black hair from her sleeping face. Now that the dust had settled, he could now see how pale Bo was starting to look. Even in the slight darkness, he could see the exhaustion in her eyes.
“You okay?Did you feed?”
Bo didn't look up, fixated on Kenzi, “Sort of, but it's fine...I-” she paused, mentally deciding whether or not she should admit her plans after this visit, “-I am going to go see Lauren.”
Dyson leaned against the counter, and forced his arms to not take up a more defensive posture.
“Is that wise?”
“Jealous?”
“Yes and no.”
Bo stood up, a coy smile playing across her lips, “What does that mean?”
“It means, I know who and what you are Bo, and I'm not bothered by that. I'm just concerned about who you're going to. She works for the Ash, and not just how I do. She's a human who's allowed to work with Fae on a daily basis. Obviously her ties with him go a lot further than what's on the surface.”
“I trust her, Dyson. She saved Kenzi's life tonight-”
“You,” he corrected quickly, “-saved Kenzi. If it hadn't been for you, Lauren wouldn't even bothered.”
Bo's smile slipped off her face, and she glared, “That's not true.”
“Believe what you want, but she wouldn't have done anything unless she was given the order, and do you really think he would have given it?”
“I still trust her, she still helped even though she wasn't allowed. I honestly don't know why you have a problem with her, considering you barely even talk to her. She has done absolutely nothing to deserve this kind of...mistrust. From you or Kenzi.”
“Don't get mad Bo, I am just pointing out facts.”
“Yeah, well, you're being an ass about it.” She snapped and started to stomp towards the door, bypassing all the luggage and bags. She was obviously angry. Dyson, almost used to these mood swings could only rolls his eyes.
“Maybe I have to. To get you to see what everyone else does.”
Bo kept walking, “Tell Kenzi to call me when she wakes.” -and then slammed the door behind her.
“Do you notice how she never closes a door quietly?” The weak voice of Kenzi asked after a second.
“Go back to bed. I'm sorry we woke you.”
Kenzi didn't listen, she sat up and yawned. “Nope, hungry again.”
Maybe Bo was right, getting Kenzi to actually sit long enough to recover would be harder than the actual recovery. The human girl was already pushing back the covers and standing up to peek through the bags of snacks. She eyed him, clearly amused as she searched.
“Plus, compared how you two usually wake me up, this was like being woken to birds singing.”
Dyson, had he been younger or human, would have probably blushed. It never really occurred to him in the moments of pleasure with Bo, that her roommate had been forced to hear it all. He forced the question of what she thought when she did out of his head into the big box of things never to be asked out loud.
“Bo went to Lauren's.” he commented, trying to change the subject, “-she wants you to call her.”
Kenzi opened a bag of Cheetos and chewed thoughtfully, “So that means you guys are off again? Or does it mean you're going to be some weird threesome couple?”
“Shouldn't you be eating something healthier than that?” He held up a can of soup, and waved it in front of her. She smirked and ate another orange colored treat.
“Shouldn't you try harder to change the subject?” She pressed on, “Come on D-man, spill.”
Kenzi was the only human on Earth who could get away with giving him such corny nicknames.
“Why do you want to know?” It was a double edge sword that question.
He knew that Kenzi was on Team Dyson, but was it because she was interested slightly or just interested for Bo's sake? -and more importantly why did he care so much about her answer? His promise to protect her was one thing, anything more could be viewed as out of line to her. He didn't want to risk her trust just because he misread her.
“Duh, both of you two dummies are my friends, it is totally expected for me to get up all in your businesses. Hell, it's practically a law.”
“Really?” He started to cook the soup while gathering the bowl and spoon, “A law?”
She nodded, “Yup, it's been around since forever. It means I get to know any and all juicy secrets about anything I please.” She took a seat at his table and like always, curled up with her legs under her.
“You already heard us, there isn't much else to say.”
“-except how you're going to deal with it.”
Dyson paused, then turned around to face her, “I can't do anything to stop her.”
Kenzi sighed dramatically, “So what, you're just going to give up? I thought wolves were possessive.”
He poured the soup into a bowl and delivered it to her while taking the other seat, “We are, but only when it comes to something we fully own or claim. Bo is a Succubus. She would never submit herself like that, to one sexual partner. Part of me wishes she would-” he admits without realizing, but once it's said it's said and there's nothing he can do but continue, “-but the other half knows a one on one relationship with her would only end badly. She literally needs more, just to stay alive. I can't give her everything she needs without risking my own life. You should know, you pointed it out.”
Kenzi looked down into her soup, “I was dying, and thought I was in Narnia and-”
“You were right, Kenzi. I knew it too...but I just didn't want to admit it, but when you said even noticed how much it was killing me, it was just...a much needed smack of reality. Forcing her to commit to me like I want, isn't helpful. To either of us. She's a new to her powers, of who she is, and she needs to explore them.”
“Wow...that was strangely deep. In like a weird, round-about way of saying you want Bo to have wild orgies in order to be a healthy succubus.”
Despite how jumbled his feelings are right now, Kenzi can still make him laugh.
“I'm Fae, and understand her nature better than she does. I always knew she would need more.”
“So then why are you all Mr. Grumpy-pants about her seeing Lauren?”
“Lauren is more than just a doctor, more than just a random worker for the light. She is a human that has direct contact with Ash. That is something that just doesn't happen. I just feel like there's more to her and her motives than she lets on.”
“Amen to that D-man. Well, I didn't know about that, but I mean, come on. A doctor? Who likes to work with all the stuffy, scary Fae all day long? Obviously something is up.”
“Scary?”
“It wasn't fun. I don't like hospitals to begin with, and even less so when I know everyone in the room couldn't give a damn if I died or not. Not to mention that dude stabbed me with a needle like every two seconds I swear.”
Dyson remembered the male-nurse who had been there when he went back to see her, and how he had said Kenzi deserved to be eaten. He made the mental note to keep his eye on that one, if he was so outright about his hatred of humans, it was something to keep a tab on.
Kenzi by then, had finished most of her soup, and was once again on the verge of falling back to sleep. He could tell she was trying to keep herself awake, but judging from her lowering eye lids, she wouldn't last much longer.
“Go back to bed.” He said while grabbing her half-empty bowl and spoon. “You can call Bo later.”
“Dun wanna.” She whined even as she stood up and curled back onto his bed, she pulled the covers around her until all he can only see her gray eyes. “Night.”
He smiled, “Good night, Kenzi.”
