Fandom: Twilight
Pairing: Jasper/Seth
Prompt: Loss

It was one of those rare sunny days in Binghamton, New York. Jasper had been avoiding the sun but not the window above the kitchen sink. He watched his lover lay in the grass, his eyes closed against the sun, hand resting on his flat stomach. It had been hard the past few months, for him because of his gift but it had been worse for Seth. Jasper knew his lover had been trying to hide his feelings, knowing how much pain it would cause him… but he couldn’t hide it all.

Seth had lost their first child.

It hadn’t been his fault of course… it had just happened suddenly. Seth had been eating supper when he had had a pain in his stomach. Then the blood had started. There had been so much blood. Jasper closed his eyes against the memory. The plate in his hands broke under the water because of the amount of pressure he was putting on it. Jasper wished he could cry.

Seth had almost died too.

Those were the worst three days of his immortal life. He had sat by Seth’s bedside, waiting, praying to a God he wasn’t sure existed to spare his lover’s life…even if He had not been merciful enough to spare the life of their child. Even with his accelerated healing Carlisle couldn’t guarantee that Seth would recover from this.

But Seth had… somewhat. He was still horribly depressed and guilty. Jasper hated that Seth felt this way but he knew his lover needed time to grieve for the child that they had lost. Unable to deny himself any longer Jasper dried his hands and went out into the backyard.

Seth didn’t move. The quick masking of his emotions though told Jasper that Seth knew he was there. “Baby, don’t do that, please,” Jasper said quietly as he lay in the grass beside Seth. “You shouldn’t have to hide anything from me.”

Seth swallowed hard. “I…I don’t want to hurt you…” He whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

“If you are hurting then I want to hurt too,” Jasper replied stroking Seth’s cheek.

Tears started to leave Seth’s closed eyes. He pulled in a deep breath before he turned and started to sob into Jasper’s shoulder. Jasper closed his eyes and held Seth tightly as he cried. He didn’t try to change Seth’s feelings knowing he needed this. Jasper wished again that he could cry.

“H-he…or s-s-she wo-would ha-have b-b-been a w-week ol-old t-today,” Seth cried.

Jasper nodded as he stroked Seth’s hair. “I know baby.” He didn’t tell his lover that they could try again. That would come later. Right now Seth needed this and him. “Did you have names picked out?” They had agreed to not talk about names until the fifth month… but the fifth month had never come.

Seth sniffed, his sobbing finally easing. He had given himself the hiccups so his breathing hitched every so often. “J-Jaci if it was a g-girl, it means m-moon. And if it was a-a boy… Akela.”

“Akela? Like from the Jungle Book?” Jasper questioned.

Seth nodded. “I always liked that name.”

“It’s a good name, strong.”

Seth lifted his head from Jasper’s shoulder and stared at him for a moment. Much to Jasper’s surprise, Seth leaned up and kissed him gently on the lips. They hadn’t so much as kissed since Seth had woken after those three days.

“Thank you Jazz.”

“For what baby?”

“For being here, not leaving me, for loving me.”

“Seth…” Jasper said gently tipping Seth’s chin up so he could capture his lips again in a sweet kiss. “I will always be here. I’m never going to leave you. And I will always love you. We’ll get through this loss…together.”

“Together,” Seth whispered.
