JKR's Tactics

Interesting about the 'Ron and Hermione have a son' thing. (check latest updates on JKR's website)

It adds credence to my theory which precisely is that JKR is doing the same thing as she is doing with the eternal 'Will Harry Die' question? (yet another example of this cropped up in her latest update: "Could it be that... ... you are seeking ( Read more... )

I'm making a list of predictions for HBP/Book 7 before the avalanche of spoilers begins. Watch this space.

*props eyelids open with toothpicks*

I agree on the quotes. I can't explain why, even when I know she's playing or I can't figure out what she means, I have little sense of "wuh?" about her quotes. Almost everything she offers serves some sort of purpose. I enjoy trying to figure out what it is. I love reading her words and, usually, laughing. But the "honesty" factor is still present. She may love to get us wound up, and to egg us on, and instill doubt but I can't believe that she would purposely try to use them to lead us towards one specific conclusion that is WRONG only to "hide" the real answer...mostly because I'd expect her to do a better job of it. :D

Precisely.

I also would daresay that I have a knack of making spot-on predictions (positively *squees* at JKR's quote about some people probably not liking HBP), and will be taking encouragement from this. OMG! I love how she outright states that some people are not going to like HBP, but she has said this before, in 2000, when she stated that she would stick to the story she was writing, even if it meant losing readers.

She does like to tease about the outcome, though. She was much more clearer in past interviews when she said she hinted that she would never kill Harry's best friend (Ron).

Looking forward to your predictions!

You are so right, Avada, and you know? The same ideas came to my head when I saw it. "That is Soooooooooo JKR!"

It's so... perfect.

On another note, I'm glad she finally dumped the whole Dumbledore is Ron from the future deal. That theory made no sense but is easily slammed by canon. Yet it was rather popular for some unknown reason....

Don't get me wrong. I'm not doing a 'Harmony' and saying that JKR is trying to mislead us from the true answer by 'red-herring' us, but her recent answers definitely don't illustrate the overwhelming one-sided story as far as the shipping question is concerned, as her earlier pre-2003 quotes did. It's just being a good businesswoman.

This also puts another nail in the popular 'OOTP-the-turnaround' theory rife amongst Harmonians- which supposedly also explains why JKR was being tight-lipped in recent answers, to "protect" her Big, Bad Red Herring. (don't ask me)

But this type of teasing by JKR only goes to strengthen the "JKR-sees-sense-in-'hyping'-and-not-giving-it-away-on-a-plate' theory. Full stop.

I wasn't really disagreeing ;) merely arrogantly stating that I do not feel particularly perplexed by it (maybe it's because my most recent paid work has been in marketing/sales/P.R.).

Although I don't really think the businesswoman thing is that big of a deal to her; not in the sense of selling more books anyway. I think she is enjoying the fandom and the anticipation and the theorizing and such in general. :D

That too. Either way, Harmonians will find it increasingly difficult to say that JKR's recent reluctance to answer shipping questions is a good thing- something that I've seen them say in the past. *snorts derisively*

And, yes, I know this is public. :)

Did you see the assertions of some Harmonians that the latest updates were in response to the boycott? Have you ever heard such nonsense?

I love her!!! She never fails to bring a big wide grin to my face when she taunts us like that.

And why shouldn't she chuckle at the roars that the concept of R/H having a son would cause in the fandom? I laugh at those people all the time. ;-)

Seriously, she knows this fandom well enough to know that a comment like that would cause us all to let out a roar (of glee and of outrage). She's obviously very entertained by it, which is great. We owe her some amusement!

I guess she'll have to write several versions then (you know, if she owes her readers). In case, God forbid, she gets hit with a lawsuit!!
