Well I disagree with this article -- a lot of those cliches aren't necessarily cliches but archetypes and they work for a reason. Nothing wrong with using them at all, though perhaps maybe not everything on the list in the same story. But it sounds like this author doesn't like your typical hero's journey story.

Interesting take, but I think I read it a little differently LOL. I got that he was more trying to say put a spin on the old clique vs doing exactly what's expected. I know I'm always pleasantly surprised when things don't turn out exactly the way I expect! LOL
