Oh Gods that was just beautiful!!!!!!!!!! I have a weakness for retirement fic, and this one was so good. I particularly loved your descriptions - you've managed to convey that mood, that feeling of autumn, so very well. ♥ ♥

I will shamelessly admit that retirement fic is just about my favorite thing, ever, because I just can't bear to imagine them any other way but growing old together.

Thanks so much for reading & commenting, and I am very glad to hear that the mood worked so well for you :D

Oh, this fic is actually very good. I really enjoyed reading it, especially with John brooding and when it turned out Sherlock was insecure as well, it just made my day. Thank you for sharing.

That is wonderful of you to say, and I am grinning quite ridiculously over here! It's oh so evil, but I do enjoy making John suffer because we all know Sherlock is not going to tolerate any of that ;)

"The cases are so dull nowadays, and besides, I felt it was high time I devoted my fullest attention to more valuable causes." Cool fingers twine through John's own, as their owner, stiffly facing forward, continues. "I'm not quite easy to get on with, though if you're amenable to the idea of tolerating me on a permanent basis, the cottage is a double-bedded one and the fresh sea air is so much more preferable to London's variety. Apart from that, I'm anxious to get my hands on that Stradivarius, and I've no use for taking up the thing unless it's to play for you."

I. Love. This. I am a sucker for a happy ending for John and Sherlock, and I'm a sucker for keeping things canonical, so them getting together when they're old is fast becoming a favorite fandom trope. This was handled very well and I'm adding it to my favorites :)

It's almost unbearable to me that Holmes' retirement was spent alone in book!Canon, so I love to indulge in these little delusions that the boys remained together :) That's probably why I am also a huge sucker for what Fanon has done with retirement fics, and why they remain my favorites.

I am terribly pleased that you enjoyed this and thanks so much for reading & commenting :D

Butting in to say, I know. In fact, I've convinced myself that they did retire as old bachelors and had merry arguments about the bees. I'm so delusional about it that when it comes up, I always have to take a moment and go, "wait, they didn't retire together? Oh that's right, ACD GOT IT WRONG. >:("

Look, you don't have to slash them, but you can't have them not retire together, it's just wrong. /impassioned rant

P.S. Don't suppose you have some good retirement fic links handy? I've only found I think 3 that I like. If you don't mind. :)

*nods emphatically* When I got to LAST/LION... I sort of wished ACD was still alive so I could wring his neck. Come on, srsly? They don't even know what the other is up to anymore? GRRR! Not. Amusing. >:( His son, Adrian Conan Doyle, wrote his own pastiches (not great or slashy) but even he had them retired together in Sussex. That tickled me silly, it did!

There is a shameful lack of retirement fic but katieforsythe has done a few and there is an awesome one by janeturenne that I love: http://janeturenne.livejournal.com/45671.html#cutid1 And this one is an adorable piece of retired fluff: http://ingridmatthews.livejournal.com/756103.html I hate to pimp myself out, but my first attempt at slash was retirement era: http://autumnatmidnite.livejournal.com/2163.html :)

I love the intertwining of the canon and the BBC verse! It's splendid. John's certainty that Sherlock will be done with him is so poignant and sad, and yet you KNOW Sherlock won't give up on him. Lovely! Simply lovely.

Thank you!!! I was more than a bit nervous about heaping so much Canon into this fic, but I confess it's getting harder for me to differentiate BBC!verse from the books. I blame the cheekbones...

Delighted you enjoyed :)
